Recognition The scrutiny and certification of the quality of regional, faith-based, private career and programmatic accrediting organizations. CHEA is the only nongovernmental higher education organization that undertakes this scrutiny. The federal government, through the U.S. Department of Education, conducts governmental recognition reviews.

SECRETARY OF EDUCATION ON MATTERS RELATED TO ACCREDITATION AND TO THE ELIGIBILITY AND CERTIFICATION

PROCESS FOR INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION PURSUANT TO THE HIGHER EDUCATION ACT (HEA).
