IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (Swiss Chapter) Workshop on

“EMC and Harmonic Mitigation: Forthcoming Standards and Advances in Filter Technology”  Thursday, 19 November 2015, 14:00–16:00

Conference Room, Schaffner EMV AG, Nordstrasse 11, 4542 Luterbach

Switching frequency increase represents the key to shrink power electronics converters, in particular reduce size of passive components, inductors and transformers, thus resulting in material and cost savings. The high-power-density power conversion paradigm is further enabled by wide bandwidth semiconductor modules which allow high switching frequencies and reduced switching losses. Power converters operating with PWM signals up to several hundreds of kHz, pose new challenges to fulfill EMI requirements and aggravate disturbances due to harmonics and interharmonics.

This seminar addresses forthcoming challenges in the fields of EMC and harmonic mitigation. From one side the need for new standards and requirements, especially in the crucial bandwidth, 2–150 kHz. On the other side, the understanding of effects of harmonics, interharmonics, EMC noise and the presentation of the latest filtering technology available to mitigate these disturbances.
