I generatori per l'alimentazione elettrica di emergenza(gruppi elettrogeni e UPS) sono ampiamente diffusi inmolteplici campi applicativi, sia nei casi in cui non èpossibile l'allacciamento alle reti elettriche pubbliche(cantieri, navi, ecc.), sia quando è necessario garanti-re la continuità di alimentazione anche nelle situazionidi temporanea mancanza dell'alimentazione principa-le di rete. Quest'ultimo caso si presenta ogniqualvoltavi siano problemi di sicurezza (ospedali, sistemi antin-cendio, allarmi, illuminazione di emergenza), oppuredove è rilevante il rischio di danni economici conse-guenti a eventuali disservizi o a perdite di produzionenell'industria. Secondo la destinazione d'uso, le po-tenze di questi generatori possono variare da alcunikVA fino a qualche migliaio, con conseguente neces-sità di adeguato dimensionamento dei rispettivi appa-recchi di manovra e protezione. Da questo punto divista, ABB offre un'ampia scelta di prodotti (interruttoriautomatici scatolati e modulari, contattori, sezionatori)sia per il comando diretto (interruttore di mac-china) che per

la commutazione automatica dallarete principale all'alimentazione d'emergenza.Per facilitare i produttori di gruppi elettrogeni, nelletabelle 2,3,4,5 sono indicati gli apparecchi più adattiin funzione delle potenze nominali dei generatori allediverse tensioni (230V, 400V, 440V); la tabella 1 è unulteriore strumento rapido di scelta per la tensione di400V, che è quella più comunemente utilizzata.I valori indicati nelle tabelle sono riferiti a cos ϕ = 1.Nelle tabelle 6, 7, 8 sono indicati gli apparecchi piùadatti per le applicazioni di UPS in corrente continua.ABB SACE ha inoltre reso disponibile un semplicesoftware, operante in ambiente Microsoft Excel, per ildimensionamento degli interruttori per unità UPS.

The generators for emergency power supply (genera-tor units and UPS) are widely used in many fields ofapplication, both in cases where connection to publicelectricity networks is not possible (building sites, shi-ps, etc.), and when power supply continuity must beensured even during a temporary power cut on themain power supply network. The latter case arisesevery time problems of safety are involved (hospitals,firefighting systems, alarms, emergency lighting), orwhen the risk of economic damage due to any out ofservice or losses in production in industry is high.According to the use they are to be put to, thepowers of these generators can vary from a few up toa few thousand kVA, with the consequent need toadequately size the relative switching and protectionapparatus.From this point of view, ABB offers a wide selection ofproducts (moulded-case air and modular circuit-bre-

akers, contactors, switch-disconnectors), both for di-rect control (machine circuit-breaker) and for automa-tic switching from the main network to the emergencypower supply.To facilitate producers of generator groups, tables 2,3, 4 and 5 indicate the most suitable apparatusaccording to the rated powers of the generators at thevarious different voltages (230V, 400V, 440V); table 1is a further rapid selection tool for the 400V voltage,which is the one most commonly used.The values indicated in the tables refer to cos ϕ = 1.Tables 6, 7 and 8 indicate the most suitableapparatus for UPS applications in direct current.Moreover, ABB SACE has made some simplesoftware available, operating in Microsoft Excelenvironment, to size the circuit-breakers for UPS units.

Generalmente il contattore utilizzato a monte della linea di distribuzione viene scelto in base alle prestazioni dichiarate in AC1; in verità il carico complessivo sulla linea non èstrettamente di categoria AC1, poiché dipende dalle caratteristiche dei singoli carichi alimentati e dalla contemporaneità della loro inserzione. Per questo motivo si consigliasempre di dimensionare i contattori in base alla corrente nominale Ie in AC1, ma con l’avvertenza di verificare che il contattore sia in grado di operare in condizioni più gravose.

The contactor used on the supply side of the distribution line is generally selected on the basis of the performance stated in AC1; in actual fact, the overall load on the line is notstrictly in category AC1, as it depends on the characteristics of the single loads supplied and on their simultaneous insertion. For this reason, it is always advisable to size thecontactors according to the rated current Ie in AC1, but taking the precaution to check that the contactor is able to operate under more severe conditions.
