One of the specialized services of the Missouri State Highway Patrol is providing presenta-tions to the public about traffic safety, crime prevention, and other law enforcement-related top-ics. This responsibility is carried out by the public information and education officers (PIEOs). Each troop has at least one officer assigned to this position.

PIEOs are experienced troopers, giving them insight into safety and crime issues. These of-ficers also attend seminars concerning all areas of public safety. Radio and television stations and newspapers are encouraged to contact these officers when seeking information about safety issues. PIEOs present programs to schools, civic clubs, youth and fraternal organiza tions, banks, church groups, trucking companies, emergency responder organizations, and others in-terested in safety, crime prevention, and the Highway Patrol.
