emerging trends and challenges for the xxi century education: mar camacho at tedxreus
DESCRIPTION
The strong emergence of mobile devices and social media in our everyday lives has transformed the way we communicate and relate, and how we learn and teach. Mobile technologies have changed the nature of knowledge, how it is distributed and how it is accessed. The widespread use of mobile phones by young people, players, tablets, game consoles and all devices describe a scenario in which you can create and access new forms of knowledge, but requires a solid conceptual basis for the which to base their development. In addition, our students-often defined as digital natives, showed great skill in its use, which promotes the proliferation of social tools that enable new forms of expression and new languages. In a globalized world completely, which blur the boundaries between the formal and informal, or virtual reality and where learning can take place anywhere at any time, it is absolutely necessary to include in the educational field the enormous potential these technologies and devices. Throughout the talk will offer an overview of these trends and address some of the challenges of teaching and learning in a mobile society. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)TRANSCRIPT

… “In my view, the concept of ‘knowledge societies’ is preferable to that of the ‘information society’ because it better captures the complexity and dynamism of the changes taking place. (...) The knowledge in question is important not only
for economic growth but also for empowering and developing all sectors of society.”
Abdul Waheed Khan (UNESCO general sub-director)

• At the time that a distinct learning culture emerges, in which learners take mobility as a departing point and
become more visible as innovators, creators and producers they develop new skills, attributes and
literacies enabled by mobile devices that offer them further possibilities to extend their learning and link
the use of social media to their own context and interests.

#emerging technologies
more personal – networked - fun - more interactive – spontaneous- shorter in
duration - to the point - for instant use- engaging users to contribute and share -

#mobile apps
Defined as the fastest growing dimension of the mobile space in higher education right
now, with impacts on virtually every aspect of informal life, and increasingly, every discipline
in the university.
#tablet computing
higher education institutions are seeing
them not just as an affordable solution for one-to-one learning, but also as a feature-rich tool for field and lab work, often times
replacing far more expensive and
cumbersome devices and equipment.

emerging technologies
... are different from what they used to be.
... need to be trained in the acquistion of skills that will allow them to inhabit and adapt to a rapidly changing society.
... need to be aware of the potential of mobile technologies for empowering their learning
our students
... need to envision the transformation of teaching and learning for 21st-century skills and citizenship.
... need to cater for non-traditional learning models, which can be further fueled by the integration of emerging technologies.
... need to provide innovative ways in which mobile technologies can be used to enhance the quality of education and transform learning processes.
