Dear parents and carers, This week Emerton Public School celebrated Education Week 2019 with the theme ‘Every Student, Every Voice’. students and staff. You should all be immensely proud of your amazing achievements. Next week all staff will begin participating in extended professional learning sessions in order to make up for one of our staff development days at the end of term 4 later this year. Staff will be working on strategies to support student’s mental health and wellbeing and we will also complete mandatory training in CPR and anaphylaxis later in term 3. The rescheduling of our staff development day should have little to no impact on the community as these days are identified staff development days where students are not required to be in attendance. If you would like further information, please feel free to contact the school to speak with Mr Smith. Congratulations to all those students who successfully completed the Special Swimming Scheme this week. I was fortunate to be able to attend and was most impressed with the progress of many of our students. Special mention to our teachers Mrs Gough and Miss Gunter and our support staff who assisted our students at the pool all week. Also a big thanks to Trish, one of our wonderful parents who assisted at swimming all week. Well done boys and girls. Thanks to the P&C who sold tea and coffee at our open day on Thursday. Breakfast club is now being sponsored by our wonderful P&C and they have purchased a brand new commercial toaster so there is now an endless supply of warm toast for our kids. As always your support is greatly appreciated. The next P&C run event will be the Father’s Day stall being held on Thursday 29 August. Anyone interested in helping out on the day should get in touch with the P&C to register as a volunteer. The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 3 September in the community room starting at 9:10am. All welcome to attend. There are a few events coming up this term including a Year 6 PJ and Movie Day (Aug 15), Book Week Parade (Aug 20), Father’s Day Stall (Aug 29), Zone Athletics Carnival (Sep 2), Rugby League Gala Day (Sep 11), Art Show (Sep 25), Year 4 Bike Ed (Sep 26) and Kindergarten Wannabees excursion (Sep 27). Please keep your eye on our school Facebook page for further updates and remember to visit our recently updated school website at https://emerton-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ Have an awesome Term 3 everyone. I am certainly looking forward to warmer weather as Winter disappears and we move into Spring later this term. Yours in education Nathan Smith Principal

Attendance News In week 5, we will have the attendance draw for all students who have had 100% attendance from weeks 1 to week 5. Two students will be drawn- one from K-2 and one from 3-6. These students will each win a brand new bicycle.

The following students have received Improved Attendance Awards over the past fortnight. These students are moving towards reaching their attendance goals.

Well done!

Tatiana KL, Olivia 1/2O, Gideon 1/2O, Zion V 1/2T, Marcus 2/3W, Allan 2/3W Abdullah 3/6K , Deaken 4/5A, Warren 4/5A, Analiz 4/5A, Mafi 5/6D, Cruz 5/6D

Please remember, if your child is absent from school, you need to explain the absence by sending in an absent note or calling the school as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, many of our students are late to school each day. Most classes begin each day with Literacy. Consequently these latecomers are missing a significant amount of literacy time each week.

News from the 1/2T room… Our Excursion by 1-2T

On Monday the 1st of July 2019 1-2T, Ms Tansley and Mrs Miles went to the Powerhouse Museum in the city. First, we had a long bus trip but there was a lot to see out the windows. When we got off the bus we had our recess. Next, we walked into the museum and saw a massive moon hanging from the roof. We went down a ramp to a room where we could put our bags

in a huge trolley. The Rangers told us the rules and we were ready to explore the museum. We were very excited! The old cinema had a piano that made the music and mannequins looking at the screen. We saw an old cash register that was gold and some old coins to go in it. Also, there was an old fire engine that had to be pulled by horses and an old red racing car. We saw the first ever mail box. Inside a ginormous space shuttle we went into a room with no gravity. It felt like we were spinning around and it made Ms Tansley feel sick. After lunch something awesome happened. We went into the experiment room where we were able to touch everything and play with different things like magnets and motors. Mr Smith tried to make the magnet go in the middle lots and lots of times. There was a cool room that showed us what it would be like in a world with no colour. Lastly it was time for us to get back on the bus and go back to school. We had a really big day and some of us fell asleep. The excursion to the Powerhouse Museum was awesome, excellent, and so cool. We learnt a lot and had fun all at the same time.

Soccer Gala Day On Thursday 25th July, 3 soccer teams represented Emerton at the Western Sydney Wanderers School Cup. We had 2 Senior Boys teams and a Senior Girls team. All 3 teams tried their best against very tough competition and we had some wins, draws and losses throughout the day.

All students learnt new skills while playing and showed great sportsmanship towards the other school teams. Thanks to Mr Zac, Mrs Cooper, Mrs Malloy for assisting with the coaching of the teams. Mrs Gough

Athletics Carnival Last Friday, all K-6 students enjoyed the wonderful weather at the Athletics track at Poppondetta Park for our Emerton Public School Athletics Carnival. It was great to see our Emerton community supporting the school on the day by either cheering on the students or helping out as timekeepers and place getters. Thanks so much.

We were very lucky to have some great sports equipment on the day, which were used by all of our students.

We were impressed by the fantastic sportsmanship and determination displayed by our students on the day. Well done to everyone. The next level is our Zone Cross Country, which will be held at Blacktown Olympic Park in Week 7 on Monday September 2nd. Students will be notified soon if they have qualified for this event.
