Model AnswerThere were many reasons why people left Scotland since 1880. There was a lot of poor quality housing and poverty in Scotland. In the Highlands, farm land was poor and rents were increasing. Countries such as England paid higher wages than Scotland. Many were attracted by the discovery of gold in South Africa and hoped to make their fortune.
