Don’t Be One More Statistic

There were over 159 million alcohol-impaired driving trips estimated that Americans took in 2002 in which 10 percent (18 million trips) were made by 18-20 year olds.

It is estimated that three out of 10 Americans will be involved in a alcohol related accident at some point in their lives

In 2003 nearly 500,000 people were injured in an alcohol-related traffic crash, an average of one every minute.

Nearly 13,000 people died in alcohol related crashes in 2007It is about one life lost for every forty minutes.

(MADD).

The Parietal Lobe: Motor Skills (Balance & Multitasking)

The Temporal Lobe: Speech & Hearing

The Occipital Lobe: Vision

Blood Alcohol Level

• If over 21, the legal BAC limit is .08

An average male will reach the legal limit by consuming 4 drinks (one drink consists of a shot of liquor, a glass of wine or a beer bottle).

An average woman will reach the limit by consuming 2 drinks.

If You are OVER the legal BAC limit you will get penalized for Driving under the influence/ Driving While Intoxicated DUI/DWI

The main issue is that an individual can get up to four offenses (DUI/DWI) before his license is permanently revoked while many of the victims don’t even get a second chance.

Not everyone that is involved in an alcohol related crash dies….

• Meet Jacqueline Saburido:1999 Jacqueline Saburido left Venezuela to come to Austin, Texas to learn

English.

It was Sunday morning and Jacqui had been at a birthday party with some friends. Neither the driver or her had been drinking that night…

Page 7: Emilia's Presentation

…Suddenly an SUV crossed paths with the car Jacqui was riding…

Two of her friends died instantly while she was trapped in the car in flames while her whole body was burning hopelessly.

Reggie, who was driving the SUV only had minor bruises!

Page 8: Emilia's Presentation

Jacqui was barely alive and 60% of her body had third degree burns. She had no ears or nose, her eyes were shut and she was completely blind. All her fingers on both arms were amputated!

But Jacqui… she will never be out of her body. She already had approximately 50 surgeries and there’s still more to be done. She is also in constant treatment.

She is a strong and true survivor! Her courage and kindness motivates people

In the meantime Reggie is serving time in prison with two charges for manslaughter. He will be out by the time he reaches 28.
