2. The Amazon River is the second largest river in the world. It extends approximately 3,900 miles. Amazon is South Americas most important river. The Amazon basin covers more than 7 million km (2.7 million miles), or nearly 5% of the worlds total land area. 3. Thousands of tributaries join the Amazon River on its path to the Atlantic Ocean. The Amazon River is onBrazils border. The Amazon River is the Chief River. Itcarries more water than any other river. 4. They have lots of animals like monkeys, pinkdolphins, parrots, snakes, jaguars and more. 5. Coffee, soybeans, wheat, rice ,sugarcane, cocoa, citrus,and beef are all stuff they grow. Industries in the Amazon are Brazil nuts, aluminum, cassava, and pepper. 6. Water as deep as 30 feet 9 meters covers the land, turning it into an underwater forest. In theAmazon people build houses right on the water. These houses are standing over the river because they usesomething called stilts to hold the houses over thewater. 7. A European explorer named Francis De Orellana, called it the Amazon River because of the womenwarriors he saw. 8. In the 1900s many people moved tothe area near Brazil to Belem. 9. 70% of Brazilians are Roman Catholic. They spend most of theirtime outdoors because its so beautiful. Music and dancing are popular pastimes. The Brazilian Samba is the national dance.
