Emotional intelligence
Definition:
EI is the ability, capacity and skills to identify access and control the emotions of ones self and others,and of groups. It is the ability of a person to use the information to guides ones thinking and actions. In
1990 psychologist Salovey and Mayer used this term as a form of social intelligence in which one can
have ability to understand and monitor the ability of her own self and others feeling and emotions, he
can discriminate between them and use this information to direct ones behavior and thinking pattern.
Aspects of EI:
There are two elements of EI:
Intrapersonal Interpersonal
Intrapersonal elements:
Intrapersonal is something that is occurring within an individual mind or in self. It includes three factors
Self awareness:Self awareness means to recognize our personality, strengths, weakness, likes and dislikes. It
helps us to recognize that under which situations we are stressed and under pressure. What is
the weak point, drawbacks in me? When we identify them also then we are able to root them
out or put some efforts minimize them. It includes factors like emotional self awareness
(recognize emotions and their effects), accurate self assessment (knowing ones strength and
limits), and self confidence (strong sense of self worth and capabilities).
Example:
Self management:It is the ability that helps an individual to control our emotions and try to become more flexible
and adaptive so that we can easy fit in the dynamic environment. . It includes factors like
emotional self control (keep disruptive emotions and impulse in check), transparency
(maintaining integrity, acting congruently with ones values), adaptability (flexibility in handling
changes), achievement orientation (striving to meet standards of excellence), initiative
(readiness to act an opportunity) and optimism (persistence to pursuing goals despite of
obstacles and setbacks).
Example:
Self motivation:Self motivation is the ability to motivate our own self, to find the reason and necessary strength
to do something. In it we are not influenced or inspired by looking someone else we chose some
task and set targets by looking our own self.

Example:
Interpersonal elements:Interpersonal skills are used when we interacting with other peoples. It involves relationship between
persons. It is also referred as people skills and communication skills. It involve skills like active listening,
tone of voice and very useful for leadership. Simply it is like that how well you communicate withpeople, mold your behavior according to the person we communicate and carry yourself. It involves the
following factors:
Social awareness:Social awareness is social consciousness, responsiveness, wakefulness and alertness shared
within a society. It is the awareness of other feelings needs and concerns. Simply social
awareness is the ability to understand that what are the problems, difficulties and hardships
exist in society and which one people face on day to day basis. We are able to lead or guide
peoples if we understand these elements. It includes empathy (sensing others feelings and
perspective and taking an active interest in their concern) and organizational awareness
(reading and understanding the group emotions and relationship), service orientation
(Recognizing and meeting follower, client, or customer needs)
Example:
Social competence:Social competence refers to the social, emotional, and cognitive skills and behavior that a
person needs in for successful social adaption. Social competence is the ability to take others
perspective and concerning a situation, learn from past experience and then use these learning
in social interaction. Social competence is the foundation upon which expectations for future
interaction are based and upon which individuals also develop perceptions about their own
behavior.
Example:
Relationship management:Relationship management is the ability to influence, help, inspire, and developing others,
conflict management , develop team work and collaboration and become social competent.
Developing other means sensing other development needs and boosting their abilities.
Inspirational leadership includes inspiring and guiding individual and groups. Have the ability to
initiate and managing changes that occurs. Conflict management includes negotiating and
resolving disagreements. Team work and group collaboration includes ability to creating groupsynergy while pursuing collective goals.
