In 1990, Dr. Peter Salovey (Salovey) ofYale University and Dr. John Mayer (Mayer) of the University of New Hampshire coined the phrase “Emotional Intelligence” ..as the ability to reason with emotion.
Salovey and Mayer identified 4 abilities and skills required for EI and called them the 4 branches of EI .
The Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT) was formulated for assessing the EQ.

In 1995, Daniel Goleman (Goleman), got the concept of Emotional Intelligence receive worldwide attention by publishing the book Emotional Intelligence, Why It Can MatterMore Than IQ Goleman’s theory of EI has more applications in the workplace. It helps to develop characteristics that distinguish outstanding performers from others at any level of a job.
