Why did the Ottomans Colonize other Countries?

The Ottoman Empire colonized other countries because they wanted to expand their nation. They also wanted to expand their religion. Every country they conquered they enforced people to follow Islam. The Sultan was recognized as God’s agent in the world. The state had three purposes: First, the preservation and expansion of Islam. Second, the defense and expansion of the ruler's power, wealth and possessions. Third, justice and security for the sultan's subjects.

What does Nationalism mean? The actual definition of nationalism in a dictionary is “patriotic feeling, principles, or efforts.” To elaborate on this it is the feeling of having massive pride and showing patriotism towards your country or where you came from. This can vary in different ways such as wearing a clothes or accessories that depicts where your from toparties or parades. For example “The 4th of July” in America(shown in bottom left corner), “Bastille Day” in France(shown in the middle), and “St. Patrick's Day in Ireland(shown on the right). Even long kept traditions could be seen as nationalism such as cheese rolling, which is on the right over here ---->

How Did Imperialism Impact

The Ottoman Empire? To start off Imperialism is the idea of extending the rule over people

and other countries, gaining more power, control and gaining economically and politically. The Ottoman Empire had a period

where they started expanding and growing nonstop. They felt the need to take advantage of the countries that were weak and unorganized.

Based on the Ottoman location, they had the best trade routes between Europe and Asia in which contributed to their wealth especially how

the military increase in power. The Ottoman Empire then fell into the name of “Sick Man of Europe” because they suffered to adjust to the

industrial revolution which potentially should’ve made them wealthier. This is reflected on their impact from Imperialism because they gained power however, later lost control of it. Partly because even

though they took countries around Europe the Ottoman Empire wasn’t following their laws and regulations, which created conflict.

What does Nationalism mean to my country?

Nationalism was very big in the Ottoman Empire. It was especially big in the religious aspect of it. In fact, the Ottoman empire had imperialized so many countries, as you saw in Omars slide earlier, actually lead to the demise of

the Ottoman empire in the end. Obviously since the Ottoman empire had so many different countries under it they had to incorporate some of other

people's culture so they don’t rebel. They included many different types of artworks, building types, and religions.
