Background Information for Employers/Organizations What is the Employability Skills 2000+ Profile ? The Employability Skills Profile on the next page is a list of generic work skills that employers throughout

Canada have identified as being important in all jobs. The Profile, developed by the Conference Board of Canada, lists fifty six (56) transferable skills that are needed by employees in order to be successful in today’s workplace.

These generic transferable skills are grouped under three main headings: 1. Fundamental Skills, 2. Personal Management Skills, and 3. Teamwork Skills. The Employability Skills Profile includes eleven sub groups of generic skills:Communication, Managing Information, Using Numbers, Thinking and Solving Problems, Demonstrating

Positive Attitudes and Behaviours, Being Responsible, Being Adaptable, learning Continuously, Working Safely, Working with Others, and Participating in Projects and Tasks.

What is an Employability Skills Portfolio ?An Employability Skills Portfolio is a collection of purposefully selected items (documents, certificates,

awards...) that one gathers throughout his/her life. These items illustrate a person’s skills, values, abilities, and interests. The Portfolio provides documentation that a person has participated in certain activities and as a result has acquired essential employability skills.

Documentation LogEach item included in this Employability Skills Portfolio is linked to a specific employability skill that is

identified in the Portfolio’s Documentation Log.
