On behalf of our faculty, staff and administrative team, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome as you begin your career

As a member of the PBSC family, I urge you to commit each day to do your best! Higher education institutions today are challenged to do all that we can to enable students to achieve their goals. Indeed, Florida’s state colleges are now held to specific performance standards reflecting student success benchmarks, with funding tied to these standards. Just being good is no longer good enough.

We at Palm Beach State are committed to being at the top of the class, optimizing funding levels and our ability to serve our community’s educational needs. We are looking critically at the programs and services that we provide and how we can position ourselves to meet emerging challenges. We have multiple campuses but function holistically as one College. Our future success will demand that we nurture and share a spirit of innovation combined with a passionate commitment to excellence across the campuses.

I would also like to remind you that Palm Beach State provides an open, collegial

environment, where all individuals can expect to be treated with dignity and respect. Whether you are joining our faculty, classified staff, professional or administrative ranks, you are encouraged to be collaborative and inclusive in your approach. Regardless of your campus or program home, keep in mind that you now represent the entire College in your interactions with students, other employees and our community. You have the power to create great experiences every day!

Those are some of our expectations. What can you expect in return from Palm Beach State? We offer you an engaging, satisfying and safe work environment and a competitive compensation package. We support your individual growth through exciting professional development opportunities that will help you to improve your skills and position you for advancement. History of Palm Beach State

1933 - Palm Beach Junior College opened at Palm Beach High School (the

historical building downtown). It is the first public junior college in Florida.

1948 – PBJC moved to Morrison Field, a deactivated Army-Air Force base,

which is now the Palm Beach International Airport.

1951 – PBJC relocated to Lake Park Town Hall. The facilities were so cramped,

the college had to lay off faculty and staff and cut enrollment to 200 students.

Newspapers referred to PBJC as “the little orphan college.”

1955 – The County Commission gave the college 114 acres in Lake Worth.

1965 – During the height of the Civil Rights Movement, Roosevelt Junior

College, an African American institution, merged with PBJC, a mostly white

college.

1968 – PBJC, which had been legally governed by the Palm Beach County

school district, came under the legal custodianship of a Board of Trustees.

1978 – PBJC in Belle Glade opened.

1980 – PBJC in Palm Beach Gardens opened.

1983 – PBJC in Boca Raton opened.

1988 – The Board of Trustees approved a name change to Palm Beach

Community College to more accurately reflect the broad scope of College

programs and services.

1999 – PBCC assumes responsibility for more than 40 post secondary adult

vocational programs in a transition from the Palm Beach County School District.

2008 –PBCC offers its first baccalaureate degree, a Bachelor of Applied Science

in Supervision and Management.

2010 – The college is renamed Palm Beach State College to reflect the

expanded educational offerings.

Quality Enhancement Plan

A quality enhancement plan, QEP, is a long-term plan to improve student

learning. Currently, our QEP focuses on critical thinking and provides all faculty

and staff an opportunity to participate in professional development to

continually enhance their skills to help students become better critical thinkers.

Opportunities include:

small group and online workshops

learning cohorts

brown bag lunches

Development Day options

Additionally, having a QEP is required for the College to remain regionally

accredited. Without this accreditation, earned credits would not transfer to

other accredited institutions, and students would become ineligible for federal

financial aid.

Foundation

When you give to the Palm Beach State College Foundation, your gift extends

far beyond the dollar amount you give; it builds momentum and grows

exponentially.

A single scholarship can change an entire family's future.

Gifts can expand with matching funds from government and other grant organizations.

An endowment can create a new classroom, support faculty, launch a new program or even break ground on a new educational building.

The Foundation seeks private support to both maintain and grow the depth

and breadth of education the College provides its students. The role of the

Foundation is to develop relationships with community partners--individuals

and businesses--who understand the value and contributions a college of this

scope and purpose provides. We then utilize those gifts by linking contributions

with the College's most pressing needs. Your tax-deductible contribution can

provide:

Scholarships for students

Funding for new academic programs

Capital improvements for new and ongoing programs

Enhancement for the quality of education and student life at Palm Beach State College
