Hodge was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, and then raised at the Boles Orphans’ Home in Quinlan, Texas. He later answered the call to serve his country within numerous branches of the military. He attended basic training at the U.S. Naval Training Center in Farragut, Idaho, and studied underwater demolition, which was the beginning of the modern day Navy Seals. He transitioned into the Marine Corps, became a drill instructor, and spent time as standing rescue personnel on Bikini Island. Next, Bill served in the Air Force and was stationed in Saigon during the Vietnam War. His most prominent military memories are of seeing the first flag raised over Mt. Suribachi during WWII and he remembers the time he and his fellow crewmen were removed from Butler Bay in Okinawa by speed boat to avoid an incoming typhoon that produced waves that were over 60’ high. Aſter retirement from his service, Bill worked in California as a licensed insurance agent and later as a marketing representative. He retired in 1989 and relocated to Tucson in 2017 to enjoy the nice weather. Bill was married for 47 years until his wife passed. Bill met his second wife Gail and has been married for 18 years. He has 2 children, Paula and Eric. Paula resides here in Tucson and visits oſten. Employee Spotlight of the Month Bre Mathews knew at an early age that a career in caregiving was for her. She received her caregiver certification at 18 years-old and has worked in the healthcare field for 12 years, with over 5 of those years here at e Villas. When working with our residents Bre provides compassionate care and treats our residents with respect. She enjoys being able to work with them on a personal level and she especially loves when the residents share their memories of the “good old days”. Bre’s life is centered around her family which includes her 3 beautiful children; Starr, Sky, and Silas. Bre enjoys teaching them new things and going on adventures. Some of their favorite family time consists of hiking, skating, or picnics at the park. We are so appreciative of Bre and her nurturing nature. ank you for all that you do! May 2018
