    Recruitment is the employment of new workers.

    Businesses need to recruit new workers for several reasons:

    The business has grown To bring in people who have skills they need To replace employees who have left because of retirement, resignation,

    promotion or dismissal.

    Unit 4: Transition Preparation for Post-16 (C1, C2, C3, C4)

    What is Selection?

    This is the process whereby the employer chooses the new employee from the

    list of applicants who have applied for the position.

    METHODS OF SELECTION

    Application form A form which applicants complete, making it easy forapplicants to be compared

    Curriculum VItae A list of all the applicants qualifications, experienceand achievements

    Interviews Employers meet applicants and ask questions to judgehow suitable they would be in that particular job

    Testing e.g. for an Office Clerk position, the applicant may beasked to perform a typing speed test

    Presentation Where the applicant may be given an area to discuss fora set period of time

    Responsibilities of the employers and employees in the selection process:

    HONESTY e.g. the employer must present accurate and clearinformation in the job advertisement; the employee mustprovide honest information with regard to qualificationsand experience

    OBJECTIVITY the employer has a responsibility to find the best personregardless of any other consideration e.g. religion

    FAIRNESS the same conditions must be applied to each applicant e.g. the same time allocated, the same questions asked

    CONFIDENTIALITY both employee and employer must treat informationlearned about each other as strictly confidential.

    Pupils sit in a circle, teacher asks them to:

    Move if you - have blue eyes- are 1st born- are wearing black shoes- have brushed your teeth- are wearing earrings- like pizza . etc

    Discuss The interviewer can see the colour ofyour hair or shoes and that you look neat and tidy.Can they tell, just by looking at you that you arehard working or if you are an honest person? Youneed to tell the interviewer a bit about yourself.
