POSITION PURPOSE (Why does this position exist)
Undertake timely and accurate assessments of planning applications for the orderly and sustainable development of the municipal area. To undertake research and provide input into strategic planning projects as required. Provide planning advice to staff, councillors, applicants and other external parties on planning matters. Undertake a variety of administrative and customer service duties on behalf of the City Development Department. Ensure that statutory rules and regulations and Council's policies and procedures are met. Ensure compliance matters are effectively dealt with.

Support town planners in undertaking complex planning assessments.
Provide quality advice to Council and customers.
Assist in the interpretation of the relevant Acts, State Policies, Council policies and the Planning Scheme.
Research, prepare and present facts and information as required.
Under the guidance of the Team Leader Planning Assessments, prepare proof of evidence, meet with Council’s legal representative, prepare and attend mediation and hearing as required.
Quality of development assessment. Continually acquires new knowledge of legislation and planning scheme.
Quality of presentation and delivery.
Strategic Planning To assist in the delivery of the department's strategic planning projects.
To undertake research into planning matters to support strategic projects.
To assist deliver public consultation exercises.

Attend to customer queries as required.
Respond to written and verbal zoning and other routine planning enquiries.
Erect public notification signs on-site.
Provide support for the department's administrative functions as required including during period of absence of leave.

This is a graduate level position which is intended to focus on developing skills and experience in planning assessments and providing the City Development Department with research, customer service and administrative support.
