REACH Empowering Girls Through Education by The Visram Foundation EMPOWERING GIRLS THROUGH EDUCATION NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2019 Season’s greetings to all our Donors, Sponsors and Well-wishers. We are delighted to share with you the highlights for the first term of the year 2019-2020 which began in June. It was a fun filled term full of activities and achievements. The Visram Foundation has always believed that education is the cornerstone of a healthy developing child. This year we welcomed nineteen new admissions from the rural areas of Gujarat and the state of Maharashtra. Four students of grade 12 and six students of grade 10 did exceptionally well in their exams. Simran Khoja from grade 12 scored 89%. She stood first in her college and was felicitated by the college principal. Alvida Panjwani and Sharon Jiwani studying in grade 10 Nirmala Convent School, topped the list scoring 78% in their board exams. In this academic year 2019-2020, six girls were admitted to Francis Agnel Vidyankur Junior College in grade 11, three in the commerce stream and three in the science stream. With new projects, partnerships, lots of innovations and interesting events, this has been a great time for all of us at Visram Foundation. As we continue on our journey, we do it with renewed enthusiasm. We would like to thank all our readers, friends and supporters for their constant encouragement and motivation. Season’s greetings to all our Donors, Sponsors and Well-wishers.

We are delighted to share with you the highlights for the first term of the year 2019-2020 which

began in June. It was a fun filled term full of activities and achievements. The Visram Foundation

has always believed that education is the cornerstone of a healthy developing child.

This year we welcomed nineteen new admissions from the rural areas of Gujarat and the state of

Maharashtra.

Four students of grade 12 and six students of grade 10 did exceptionally well in their exams. Simran

Design for Change (DFC)This social cause initiative undertaken by

the Agakhan Youth & Sports board saw

active participation by all the students. They

designed thought provoking posters, made

beautiful artifact’s and prepared interesting

skits and street plays to convey different

social messages. They visited different

underprivileged sections of various societies

to create awareness on different issues. Such

as, safe water, proper disposal of garbage,

recycling, ban of plastic, maintaining cleanliness

and following traffic rules. They also collected

clothes and money for the flood victims.

TrendsettersThis activity based programme was carried

out by the Agakhan Education Board to help

students learn about their strengths and

weaknesses. This will teach them how to best

leverage their strengths to build a career.

Medical CampMedical camp was organised on the campus

by the Agakhan Health Board in which blood

screening, dental and general check-ups

were done by the doctors. Dr Malik Merchant

explained how to maintain oral health and how

important it is to have healthy teeth. Sessions

on general hygiene and emotional health were

also conducted by the team.

CAFE YSBThe Agakhan Youth & Sports Board organised

an interactive session for the students with

a special invitee. The guest, Ms Amina Ajani

is a well-known motivational speaker, and a

successful entrepreneur. The session was very

enlightening and inspiring for all the students.

Rakhi Making CompetitionRaksha Bandhan was celebrated on August 25,

2019. Rakhi making competition was organised at

the campus for upper kindergarten to grade 12th.

Winners of the competition were:

UKG to Grade 4th

1st – Rihana Meghani grade 3rd

2nd – Alisha Mavani grade 1st

3rd – Mariam Lazarus grade 4th

Grade 5th to 8th

1st – Saniya Pathan grade 6th

2nd – Saniya Pabani grade 6th

3rd – Insha Gadiya grade 6th

Grade 9th to 12th

1st – Alisha Hamirani grade 12th

2nd – Nazmin Lalani grade 12th

3rd – Arzoo Lalani grade 9th

Independence Day was celebrated to

remember with pride the commitment and

contribution of the brave individuals, who

sacrificed their lives for the cause of India.

The celebrations started with a flag hoisting

ceremony followed by patriotic songs.

Irrespective of our culture, civilization, caste,

creed, and religion, the most important and

binding factor is our National Flag. The tricolor

symbolizes courage, truth, and prosperity.

Teachers Day CelebrationTeachers’ Day is celebrated with immense zeal at

the institute on the 5th of September each year.

It is a day to pay respect to the teachers and

thank them for their efforts and hard work, each

day, all year round, to nurture the students.

Dandiya Activity A Dandiya night was organized for

Navratri on 5th October, 2019. The

children danced to their hearts content,

creating a vibrant and exuberant

evening. The children enjoyed different

kinds of chaat and dessert.

GIRL OF THE MONTHName of the student: Alvida Panjwani

Alvida’s family resides in Una, Gujarat. She is studying at

Francis Agnel Vidyankur Jr College in grade 11. Alvida is a

hardworking and intelligent girl. Alvida lost her mother at a

young age, she stays with her maternal aunt. Alvida’s father

is bedridden and cannot work. She has two siblings, an

elder brother and a sister. Alvida loves to read and dance.

She wants to become a biologist when she grows up.
