EMS Awards Banquet 2009EMS Awards Banquet 2009IntroductionFrom October 22nd to 24th, 2009, Yukon Emergency Medical Services (EMS) held its an annual Education and Skills Symposium for EMS volunteers. The 2009 EMS Educational Symposium, Skills Competition and Awards Banquet was comprised of informative lectures and seminars on current health and education issues affecting Community EMS in Yukon and across Canada. It included a superb Skills Competition, which saw teams from different Yukon communities compete to tackle a realistic mock disaster.

EMS Awards Banquet 2009EMS Awards Banquet 2009The event culminated in an awards ceremony and banquet to formally recognize the skills, dedication and service volunteers perform to provide safe, rapid and highly skilled emergency medical care for sick and injured patients.Protective Services wishes to thank all those who attended the symposium, and to recognize the hard work of those who made it happen. We would especially like to thank all Yukon EMS volunteers whose hard work, skills and devotion is crucial to delivering an essential service to Yukon Communities and helps all Yukoners live healthier and safer lives. Your work is nothing short of heroic.

Excellence in Emergency Medical Services AwardKath Relkoff (Watson Lake EMS) received the award from Jeff O’Farrell, Deputy Minister of Community Services. This award recognizes her skills in recruiting, training and retaining new Rural EMS attendants.

Bruce Harder Memorial AwardsThree Yukon Communities were honoured with the Bruce Harder Memorial Award, which was presented to recipients by the Minister of Education, Hon. Patrick Rouble. This award is for team work and outstanding commitment to their community - qualities exemplified by the late Bruce Harder.
