EXT. HOUSE - DAY
Zoom into a house in a suburban and quiet neighborhood.
INT. KITCHEN - DAY
The clock at the coffee maker shows 7:00 am. STEVEN MITCHELL
early 30’s, professional, formal and tall. His hand grabs
the coffee pot to pour himself a cup.
A picture of a little girl in a tutu outfit twirling, is
placed next to a child’s drawing on the fridge door. Alex’s
hand grabs the door handle, opens it, and takes the milk
out, he closes the door. We hear him moving around the
kitchen but we stay with the drawing and picture.
He comes to put the milk back inside the fridge. His arm
reaches for the picture, he grabs it, and studies it. He
hears someone approaching, he turns and puts it over the
kitchen island counter, and starts packing up to leave for
work.
DAYNA MITCHELL, a young woman in her late 20’s, a teacher,
pale skin, skinny, and tired looking, dressed in her robe,
enters the kitchen to find Steven grabbing his coffee
leaving in a rush. She looks down at the counter to the
drawing which she hurries to put back to the fridge, mad
that she found it out of place.
She pours a cup of coffee which she mixes with liquor. A
match is lit to light a cigarette. She sits at the island to
drink her coffee and smokes her cigarette in silence, taking
her time.
CUT TO:
INT. BEDROOM’S HALLWAY - DAY
Dayna goes up the stair and stops at a bedroom’s door. Her
hand goes to the handle and is about to turn it but she
stops. The clock at the wall marks 2:00 pm. Dayna stands
still and leans against the door, trying to hear inside,
when she doesn’t hear anything she continue walking.

EXT. HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT
A car pulls into a parking space, Dayna gets out of the car,
and walks toward the High School.
INT. CLASSROOM - DAY
We follow Dayna over the shoulder as she enters a classroom
without having an angle to see the students. She doesn’t
bother to turn to the her students and she goes to the front
of the class and starts writing on the board. She looks
miserable while writing math problems.
Following her sight she turns to the class to reveal adults,
about ten of them. The class finishes and she gathers her
things. She leaves without talking to any of her students.
INT. HALLWAY - DAY
At the end of her class she leaves the classroom and stops
cold when she notices a little girl approaching down the
hallway, EMILY. She’s about 5 years old, has freckles, dark
hair, light eyes and wears a tutu while twirling.
Emily runs to an older lady and jumps into her arms, AMANDA.
She is one of Dayna’s students. A lonely 50 year old lady,
with a strong accent who decides to enroll into the adult
education program to have better opportunities. Dayna looks
very interested in them. She follows them out to the parking
lot.
EXT. HIGH SCHOOL PARKING LOT - EVENING
She walks towards them while they’re catching up. She stops
at a good distance but Amanda sees her. Dayna approaches
them without knowing what to say.
AMANDA
Hi, Mrs. Mitchell.
DAYNA
I...
Hesitates but she continues.
DAYNA (CONT’)
Is this your...?

AMANDA
She’s my granddaughter.
Dayna smiles awkwardly.
DAYNA
She looks like such a sweet girl...
Turning to Emily with a sweet voice.
DAYNA (CONT’)
Hi...how old are you?
Emily turns to Amanda.
AMANDA
She’s almost five...
(pause)
Amanda hesitates but she feels comfortable enough and starts
bragging about her granddaughter. She can’t stop talking,
and she talks fast.
AMANDA (CONT’D)
She’s so cute isn’t she? Everyone
says she looks just like me. She’s
the smartest kid of her class. Her
name is Emily. Say Hi Emily. She’s
my everything...
Dayna nods, just goes along with the conversation. Amanda
then changes her expression, it turn into a more serious
conversation.
AMANDA (CONT’D)
She doesn’t talk much, you know,
ever since her mother became an
angel not too long ago. Didn’t she
Emily?
Emily nods. While Dayna is shocked by the revelation and
Amanda’s bluntness, she gives them a sad smile.
Emily’s sight goes to Dayna’s hand, she’s holding a
ballerina key chain.
EMILY
Is that a ballerina?
Pointing at the key chain. With that, Dayna’s expression
turns to hurt, she holds the key chain tightly. Emily
notices and turns towards Amanda holding her hand.

EMILY (CONT’)
Why is she so sad, grandma?
Dayna is surprised. She doesn’t know how to answer a little
kid asking these types of questions.
EMILY (CONT’)
You know when I get sad I like to
twirl like a ballerina. It makes me
feel better.
Emily twirls. With that Dayna leaves. She gets into her car
and drives away.
INT. KITCHEN ENTRANCE - EVENING
Dayna comes into the house throws her things to the floor.
Goes directly to the liquor cabinet. Grabs a cup and fills
it with what ever she finds first. She does a few shots.
Close up on Dayna’s face in a daze. She sits at the same
spot in the kitchen island. She pushes her drink and stands.
INT. FOYER/STAIRS - EVENING
She walks into the foyer and grabs a pink child’s jacket and
looks up the stairs.
CUT TO:
EXT. PARK - EVENING
Dayna sits on a swing looking to the playground for a long
time with the jacket in her hands. An empty swing next to
her.
CUT TO:
INT. FOYER/STAIRS - EVENING
She comes into the house and goes up the stairs.
INT. BEDROOM’S HALLWAY - EVENING
Dayna stands in front of the bedroom once again and prepare
for what’s to come. She’s still holding the jacket and she
grips tighter when she’s about to open the door.

INT. DAYNA’S HOUSE KID’S BEDROOM - EVENING
She opens it to reveal a little girl’s room, dark and
deserted. It looks like nobody has been there for a while.
We pan over the room as Dayna holds the door open. She
studies the room full of ballerina decorations with an
uneasy pace.
She starts pacing inside the room grabbing the jacket
tighter and looking at the different decorations in the
room. She finally stops in front of a music box and she
opens it. It has a ballerina twirling inside of it. Music
starts playing, Dayna walks toward the bed and sits.
Steven is at the door frame watching her. Dayna turns to the
door.
STEVEN
Dayna...it’s been two years now.
He sighs and with that, he walks away.
Dayna stands and goes to the window. We see her profile
while she opens up the shades. She stares for a while. Then
turns walking directly to the music box. The music stops.
She closes the music box taking it with her, she walks out.
FADE OUT
INT. HALLWAY - DAY
Dayna coming out of her classroom. She sees Amanda with the
little girl in the hallway, she approaches them as they walk
out. She catches their attention, they turn and she kneels.
DAYNA
Hi, Emily.
EMILY
Hi
DAYNA
I want to thank you, you taught me
something very important yesterday.
You are very brave for letting
yourself be happy.
She reaches for something inside her bag. She takes out the
the music box and gives it to the little girl.

I also lost someone really
important to me. I want you to have
this. It has a ballerina that
twirls.
She hands in the music box and Emily grabs it with a big
smile turning to Amanda who approves of it.
Dayna stands with hope and confidence. Emily and Amanda walk
away.
Dayna takes a deep breath and smiles. She walks the other
away.

THE END
