The Convention on the Rights of Child applies to every person younger below eighteen and all rights must be granted to each child without exception. The State must protect the child against all forms of discriminations (Article 2).

The Charters confers the following basic human rights to the children:

- The right of Survival: Children have a right to life, need and have special needs, like food, shelter, safety, nutrition and health care, name and nationaliy. "These rights outline what children need to reach their full potential " (Unicef)

- The right of Protection: "Requires that children be protected from all forms of physical or exploitation and sexual abuse, neglect, exploitation and torture. including special protection for refugee children, safeguards for children in employment and protection and rehabilitation for children who have suffered any form of abuse or exploitation" (Unicef).

Aproximación cristiana de los derechos de la niñez y la adolescencia

- The right of development and participation: Children need to be care, to have a good education, leisure and recreation.

They need to practice their culture and religion.

– The rigth to Participation: Children like adults have needs to seek information, expression, thought or religion, and to take responsibilities and to have voice.

These rights are contributions necessary for the survival and full development of the child. They include rights to adequate food, shelter, clean water, formal education, primary health care, leisure and recreation, cultural activities and information about their rights. These rights require not only the existence of the means to fulfill the rights but also access to them. Specific articles address the needs of child refugees, children with disabilities and children of minority or indigenous groups.

The government has a responsibility to make sure the rights of the children are protected, and the families have the responsibility to teach these rights to their children.

1. The Convention on the Rights of Child.that has two additional Protocols adopted on May 25 , 2000.

The Committee on the Rights of Child established by the Convention monitors the implementation by its States Parties and the United Nations for Children (UNICEF) performs actions in favor of children.
