Enamel Hypoplasia:
Tal Kaplan1214
It is an incomplete or defective formation of organic enamel matrix
Local and systemic factors that interfere with the normal matrix formation can cause enamel surface defects and irregularities
General Information:
Mild – there may be only few small grooves, pits and fissures on enamel surfacemoderate – enamel exhibits rows of deep pits arranged horizontally across the surface
severe – considerable portion of enamel may be absent
Classification & Clinical Picture:
Hypoplasia due to nutritional deficiency (Rickets – Vit. D)
hypoplasia due to exanthematous diseases (Rush)
syphilitic hypoplasia
hypoplasia due to hypocalcemia
hypoplasia due to birth injury
Turner hypoplasia (Effect only one tooth)
dental fluorosis (Overdose of fluride)
tetracycline hypoplasia (Tetracycline antibiotics)
Types Of Enamel Hypoplasia:
Mild form – when there is slight depression or pit on the mesial or distal borders of the Crown, it is apparent on a radiograph. When there is depression on lingual or labial surface it may be gone unnoticed or present as slight increased darkness
moderate form – more extensive lesion appears as a series of round dark shadows crossing the tooth in straight lines
severe form –very gross deformity produces a Crown that is markedly shrivelled at its incisal and occlusal surfaces
Radiographic Investigation:
Hypo-plastic teeth are more susceptible to dental caries than the normal teeth bleaching with 30% H2O2 hydrogen peroxideDesensitising paste – it should be used to decrease the sensitivity of teeth which may be due to exposed dentine
Management:
