Message from the Minister

Welcome to the Sydney Opera House, Australia’s premier concert venue, and to the27th ENCORE concert, a showcase of some of the exceptional performances andcompositions presented for 2013 HSC Music examinations.

The performances and compositions presented in ENCORE provide an opportunityfor students, teachers and the community to see the remarkable artistic talent from arange of schools across NSW.

Music remains a popular choice in the HSC, with the syllabuses offering opportunitiesfor students to explore a range of styles, from classical to jazz, rock and beyond. It isthe rigorously high standards demanded of senior secondary music courses that arepart of their appeal. This concert shows the calibre of performance or compositionrequired to achieve outstanding results.

Many students find the study of music leads to further training in tertiary and industrycourses, while for others, music continues to play an important role in theircreative life.

I offer my sincere congratulations to all students performing today. Along with theirteachers, they have worked incredibly hard to develop their potential and to achievethese extraordinary performances that truly meet the challenges of the HSC Musicsyllabuses. I know they will be a source of inspiration to everyone present at thisperformance and I wish them all the best for their future.

The Hon. Adrian Piccoli MPMinister for Education
