The mission of Endicott College is to instill in students an understanding of and an appreciation for professional and liberal studies. Deeply woven within this philoso-phy is the concept of applied learning, which has been the hallmark of Endicott. Linking classroom and off-campus work experience through required internships remains the most distinguishing feature of the College.

Endicott has a vision for the total development of the individual within a commu-nity that fosters an appreciation of diversity, international awareness, community service, and moral and ethical values. Endicott is an innovative and vibrant, student-centered institution that supports undergraduate and graduate students in their pursuit of knowledge.

Common threads run through the fabric of the Endicott experience: increased self-confidence, stronger professional skills and technological competencies, and perhaps the most valued of all, lives open to change.

I chose DIII because of a competitive yet not over-whelming schedule. DIII has the perfect balance be-tween academics and athletics. Endicott gave me the opportunity to be a part of a team collectively reaching for goals. This school allows me to be coached by a staff that not only will help me reach my highest poten-tial on the court but also genuinely cares about my life off the court. Endicott is a small school where you get to see familiar faces and the beautiful campus all day long.

rachel fenstermaker ‘13Choosing Endicott was an easy choice for me. It has a quality elementary education program with many field experiences to build my resume. The small campus community was just what I wanted. I decided to play tennis my sophomore year because the school had a great athletic program but continued to keep academics a great focus. Deciding to play tennis was one of the best decisions I made in college; it helped with my time management, confidence, and developed many friendships. – Rachel Fenstermaker ‘13

I chose Endicott mainly for the internships, which have all been a great experience. I knew that Endicott would be a good fit for me both academically and athletically. Academi-cally because it is a small school and there is help wherever you need it. Being involved in athletics has made my experi-ence at Endicott that much more enjoyable.

The South Campus Courts were resurfaced in the summer of 2009 with new blacktop enclosed by regulation fencing featuring the Endicott Tennis logo.

These six NCAA regulated courts, located on the edge of Beverly Harbor, have views of the Atlantic Ocean with a capacity of 50 spectators.

The South Campus Courts play host to the Endicott men’s and women’s tennis teams as well as many local high schools in the area.

Endicott entered preseason camp this August without two of their starting singles players and one doubles duo not return-ing for the 2013-14 season but the Gulls expect a strong

core of returners, including junior tri-captains Natalie Egbert, Amy Heacox, and Chrissy Martel, and a freshman class looking to make an impact will help them return to the CCC Championship Match for a third straight season. “We have a huge part of our team coming back and freshmen looking to fill the shoes of our lost players,” said second-year head coach Jeremy Howard, who expect coming close to the accomplishments of last year to be a daunting task. “We won the CCC, became the first team from the CCC to win a NCAA Tourna-ment match, and set a school record for wins. It will be tough to duplicate that.”The team beefed up their schedule a little bit this fall, keeping a tough regional powerhouse like Wellesley (August 31st) and adding another in Babson (September 12th). More challenging opposition will hopefully lead to a prepared squad for the October CCC playoff bracket and another conference title. Howard anticipates that the high-level of chemistry that already exists on his team will go a long way towards unifying veteran and first-year players, aiming at a common goal. With no seniors on the roster, three junior captains, four sophomores, and four freshmen, there is a large percentage of student-athletes who have

been members of the program for less than two years. “The three junior captains have a great job so far through pre-season of keeping everyone together. It is important that every-one, especially the new players, feel like that fit in right away. When you have great team chemistry then everyone is out com-peting, not just for themselves, but for their teammates as well.”On the court, the three captains have combined for a 138-28 (.831 winning percentage) combined record in singles and doubles play in their two seasons together thus far. Combined, the three hard court stars also have five All-CCC awards.Martel earned All-CCC First Team Singles and Doubles with Egbert in 2012. Martel settled into the #2 singles position in the lineup last season and went 9-4. Overall she was 13-7 (7-1 CCC) in singles play while on the doubles court, her and Egbert impressed with a 14-6 (6-1 CCC) mark at #1 doubles. Egbert went 18-2 overall and 7-0 in-conference in singles play last year as she earned All-CCC Second Team Singles honors to go along with her doubles award. Egbert was a fixture at the #3 singles spot, suffering just one loss in 14 matches.Heacox dominated with a 38-2 record in both singles and doubles play, including a spotless 20-0 standing in singles action last season. Heacox was named All-CCC Honorable Mention in singles and doubles with her partner, sophomore Brittany Potter. Potter as a freshman was mainly a doubles player with Heacox (16-2) but

won two out of her three singles match ups. Endicott will also welcome back sophomore Suzie Newman who went 7-0 last year with two wins on the singles court and five wins in doubles play. Newman was injected into the #6 singles position for the NCAA Tournament last May and will look to com-pete for a starting role this fall. Howard also expects a couple of the freshman to push for serious playing time this fall, including Mackenzie Rhodes out of Ports-mouth High School in New Hampshire.“Rhodes is about six-feet tall and may end up having the biggest serve in the conference right off the bat. With the way she and some of the other freshmen are playing, that last singles position is up for grabs.”The CCC expects to be extremely competitive in 2013 with just a few points separate the first and third place teams and several teams picking up new talent and improving their games in the offseason. Endicott begins their 2013-14 season on Friday, August 30th with a non-conference home opener against Colby-Sawyer followed by a difficult match up with Wellesley on Saturday. The Gulls kick off their CCC schedule on the road on September 7th at their conference semifinal opponent from the past two seasons, Roger Williams. Endicott will take on North Shore Cup rivals Gordon, also a CCC opponent, and Salem State this season and will anticipate a rematch of the CCC Champion-ship against Nichols on September 29th.

Jeremy Howard

Jeremy Howard begins his second season as the next head coach for the Gulls men’s and women’s tennis programs. Howard, a former

NCAA DI tennis player at the University of Richmond, is coming off a record-breaking first season at Endicott as the Gulls won a school record 19 matches including their second consecutive CCC title. Endicott, under Howard’s guidance, won their first ever NCAA Division III Tournament match in program history.Howard came to Endicott after coaching the Stowe (Vt.) High School boys tennis team since the spring of 2011. He oversaw his state championship contending tennis squad through scheduling matches, coordinating and running practices, and coaching the team in ap-proximately 20 head-to-head matches.

Howard also served as the Director of Marketing for the Grand Slam Tennis Tours, Inc. located in Stowe, Vermont since 2005. He implemented marketing plans, expanded sales and business de-velopment, managed social media efforts, edited the company website, and coordinated all marketing and advertising campaigns during his seven-year stint at GSTT.

While earning his Bachelor of Arts, Cum Laude, degree in Politi-cal Science from the University of Richmond, Howard helped the Spiders to the 2001 Atlantic-10 Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. He went on to get his Master of Educa-tion in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Educational Lead-ership & Student Administration from the University of Vermont in December of 2010 and completed an internship in the UVM

athletic department.

Howard has also coached a variety of camps in his career including the Win-dridge Tennis Camp in Jeffersonville, Vermont, ranked a top 10 tennis camp in the United States by Tennis Magazine, where he was the head tennis counselor and assistant tennis director. He also worked at the Moses Brown RISE Tennis Camp as an assistant director in the summer of 2010.

“My goal is to continually make our players smarter on the court,” says Howard. “They need to have the mentality that hard work is the only way to improve our team.”

In less than a year, Howard has already seen the benefits of getting an Endi-cott College education. In conversations with recruits, he listens closely to how much time their put in their tennis but he also uses these one-on-one meetings to talk about Endicott academics and the experiential learning program.

“Endicott’s location is premiere, but the wide array of academic majors and the internship and experiential learning programs will prepare graduates for life after college. Endicott students leave Beverly with a resume entact and that is essential in securing post-graduation employment. I want my student-athletes to enjoy their tennis experience, but when they leave Endicott with a degree and a job then I know they taken full advantage of being a member of our community.”
