The mission of Endicott College is to instill in students an understanding of and an appreciation for professional and liberal studies. Deeply woven within this philoso-phy is the concept of applied learning, which has been the hallmark of Endicott. Linking classroom and off-campus work experience through required internships remains the most distinguishing feature of the College.

Endicott has a vision for the total development of the individual within a commu-nity that fosters an appreciation of diversity, international awareness, community service, and moral and ethical values. Endicott is an innovative and vibrant, student-centered institution that supports undergraduate and graduate students in their pursuit of knowledge.

Common threads run through the fabric of the Endicott experience: increased self-confidence, stronger professional skills and technological competencies, and perhaps the most valued of all, lives open to change.

As a serious high school athlete debating which level of soccer to continue my career in, DIII became the obvious choice. It became a place where I could still be very com-petitive, successful and dedicated to both my team and my academics. Endicott has provided me with a highly com-petitive soccer program that has enabled me to continue my passion for the game and carry on the team’s historic success. The combination of an established soccer program, beautiful campus, community feel and academic success is why I chose Endicott. – Caitlin Peters ‘13

lexi dussi ‘14Endicott is the perfect fit for me both academically and athletically. Student-athletes at Endicott are afforded the opportunity succeeded both in the classroom and on the playing field. The athletic depart-ment has flourished immensely and fosters leadership and dedication through sport. I have grown as an individual and as a player be-cause of the camaraderie our team embraces. Although I originally had plans to play at a higher level, being a part of a smaller DIII program has exceeded my expectations and has allowed me to enjoy the full college experience. I am certain that I will graduate with an unprecedented amount of knowledge based on the way Endicott academics and athletics have shaped me. – Lexi Dussi ‘14

After transferring to Endicott from a Division I University I realized that a DIII college with a smaller community is really what suited me best. The small classroom sizes and one of a kind internship program have helped me excel academically and build relationships with professors and colleagues. Along with academics, Endicott has a strong legacy in athletics. The athletes are driven and moti-vated with the expectation to win. The work ethic and values that I have learned through athletics here have shaped me and set me up for success in the future and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a great program. – Chelsea Garlock ‘13

Unfinished business. That’s how the women’s soccer team is approaching the 2013 season. After a 14-5-1 overall record, most teams wouldn’t be left saying that

there was unfinished business to take care of the following year. This isn’t most teams though. With a banner season in their rearview mirror, the women’s soccer team is quickly gearing up for what they hope will be another year that rewrites the record books. While the Gulls claimed their first ever ECAC DIII New England Championship in 2012 by blank-ing top seeded St. Joseph’s of Connecticut 2-0 in the title game, the team realizes that it isn’t the banner they set out to raise each and every year.

Endicott advanced to the ECAC tournament after a tough semifinal loss to Roger Williams on penalty kicks. The two teams qualified for the CCC tournament with identical 7-1-1 conference records but RWU won the tie-breaker and #2 seed which allowed them to host. Once in the ECAC tourna-ment, Endicott, the #3 seed again, hosted #4 Emmanuel and dispatched them 2-0 to advance to the ECAC semifinal against #2 Keene State. Down 1-0 at half time, the Gulls were able to dig down and score two quick goals which pro-pelled them to a 3-1 win over the Owls and a championship matchup against the Blue Jays of St. Joseph’s.

2012 marked the first time in 12 years that the Blue and Green didn’t play in the CCC title game. That stat alone will provide the fuel for the fire that burns inside ever returner from last year’s squad. Leadership from the likes of Lexi Dussi (Boxford, Mass.) up front and Sarah Person (Holden, Mass.) on the back line, players returning from injury like Heather Moody (Dunstable, Mass.) and Lauren Fournier (Mil-ford, Mass.) and sophomores that contributed in the playoffs such as Paige Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) and LeeAnn Card (Paxton, Mass.) look to guide the 2013 Gulls through a tough schedule and potential deep post season run.

Head coach Jodi Kenyon, who is entering her ninth season at the helm and holds a record of 127-42-12, knows that the experience from last year’s run and the hard work the women have put in during the offseason will only help them in the long run. “We have some very big shoes to fill with the graduation of key players from the 2012 squad,” stated Kenyon. “There are big holes that several returners began battling to fill at the end of last season. While we have some question marks this team is focused and has set some pretty high standards for the new players. They simply will not ac-cept mediocrity and are prepared to do battle to regain what they feel they lost. If their attitude and determination persist throughout the season, I have no doubt they will do great things.”

The Gulls know that their tough schedule will have them ready for post season play. “Our end results the past couple of seasons have fallen short of our goal,” stated senior Lexi Dussi. “We are looking to not only raise a banner but to also make a strong NCAA appearance. Last years’ experience helped us prepare for this season and will only make us stronger.”

Their schedule kicks off in Rochester, N.Y. against the Uni-versity of Rochester and Union before the Gulls then take on Salem State, Keene State, Lasell, Smith and Wellesley before opening up at Roger Williams in a rematch of last year’s CCC semifinal loss. Endicott will also have Babson and Tufts come to Beverly, Mass. for contests and will travel to Plym-outh State to take on the Panthers to round out their out of conference schedule. A late October tilt against cross-town rival Gordon wraps up the regular season and readies them for an early November CCC tournament. With the experience gained from last year’s ECAC title and the tough schedule during the regular season, Kenyon and the Gulls have their sights set on returning to the CCC title game and taking care of unfinished business.

Jodi Kenyon

One of the most successful teams in school history, Endicott’s women’s soccer program has made 14 straight appearances in

the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament including eight championships. Head Coach Jodi Kenyon, who is about to begin her ninth year at the helm, has had a big part in that success. She has led the Gulls to four conference titles and five NCAA tourna-ment appearances, where they have collected five victories, and has compiled a record of 127-42-12 (.735), making her the active leader in winning percentage among Endicott coaches.

Kenyon’s players and teams have shined in conference play, where she has coached them to a mark of 82-10-2. Gulls women’s soccer players have also received numerous conference awards and all-conference recognition, highlighted by eight student-athletes earn-ing the conference player of the year and two receiving rookie of the year honors.

While Kenyon has a history of building teams that produce results on the field, she maintains that developing her players into “whole” individuals is the focus of her coaching mentality. Kenyon holds the philosophy that the lessons she uses to develop champions on the field has also bred student-athletes who can achieve their full potential and commit to being the best they can both in and out of season.

“While we train hard and play a very rigorous schedule, it is my belief that the work ethic and discipline carry over onto all areas of our player’s lives. If they work hard on the field, they will work hard in the classroom, get the best internships and later in their career be highly marketable. We ask our players to commit to

being the best they can all the time, not just in season.”

Part of that commitment includes a year-round training program, which Kenyon believes is paramount in importance for her players. “While there are definitely periods of recovery and low impact, it is important that they maintain some level of fitness so they aren’t beginning at baseline every summer.”

Kenyon demands that her players are committed in the classroom as well, and her expectations have not gone unnoticed. Under her watch, Kenyon’s teams have consistently maintained cumulative grade point averages of over 3.0 and have five times been recipients of the National Soccer Coaches As-sociation of America (NSCAA) Academic Team award. Under Kenyon’s watch, Senior forward Colleen Pepin made Endicott history in 2012, becoming the first player to receive NSCAA Academic All-Region status and the first Gull to be named Capital One Academic All-America, earning a First Team nod. Two additional players, Caitlin Peters and Chelsea Garlock, also received All-Region accolades for their outstanding academic achievements.

One of Kenyon’s keys to success is communication and cohesion, whether it is between her and her players or among the student-athletes. This is equally as important off the field as it is on it, says Kenyon, who keeps updated on her player’s classes, plans and personal lives through regular individual meet-ings. “Being direct and honest with players is important to me so they know their role. I don’t want surprises and I want them to be comfortable in their surroundings.”
