In 1999, the total supply of primary energy in the world was 9,744.48 MTOE (Million Tons of Oil Equivalent). According to estimates

of 1999, it is projected to be 11,500 MTOE in 2010 and 13,700 MTOE in 2020.

As of 2005, oil remains well ahead of other energy sources (35%), coal meets 25 percent of the world's energy needs, natural gas is

next (20%), and nuclear power meets 6 percent of the planet's energy needs.

Developed industrialized countries consume around 43 millions oil barrels daily on an average while developing countries consume

22 million (2008).

The G-20 accounts for over 80 percent of the world's energy use (2008).

The Middle East holds 62 percent of the world's proven oil reserves (2008).

The World Coal Institute says that, at current production levels, proven coal reserves are estimated to last 147 years. That means

no more coal after 2155.

According to the World Fact Book 2008, the world’s oil reserves will last until 2052 and gas reserves will last until 2065.

More than 1/3 of the world’s crude oil is refined into gasoline. Other main products are distillate fuel oil (mainly diesel o il) and jet

fuel (mainly kerosene).

Inefficient appliances, drafty windows and doors, poor insulation, and other fixable energy wasters cost U.S. consumers an

estimated $300 billion a year—more than the U.S. military budget.

From 2008 to 2030, world energy consumption is expected to increase more than 55%.
