Background

The Energy Skills Partnership (ESP) is a collaboration of Scotland’s

colleges and industry partners established to increase Scotland’s

capability and capacity to deliver the right skills for the energy,

engineering and construction sectors to meet industry demand.

By working in a cohesive partnership Scotland’s colleges demonstrate

a responsiveness and collective capability to provide the technical skills

required by industry.

Innovation in Education

• Virtual Welding - ESP have purchased a portable Virtual Welding Unit as a shared resource for the college network.

• Immersive Hybrid Reality (iHR) - Virtual Working at Heights -ESP have been working with Herriot Watt to develop virtual reality software packages suitable for use in schools and colleges.

• Distance Learning - Developments include HND Electrical Engineering and ISO9001 Quality Management.

• Online Learning – Marine Renewable Energy

• Augmented Reality - In March 2016 a joint European funding bid was submitted with partners from France, Italy, Portugal and Estonia. The project to support the development of innovative and competitive professional approaches in the building sector using Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology has been approved.

• Map App – ESP is currently working on the development of an interactive map of college provision across Scotland searchable by sector, course etc. This is being trialled for the Manufacturing sector in the first instance before being populated with data sets for all of Engineering, Energy, Construction and STEM related activities.

An emerging priority brought about by demand from members:
