II. Center for Writing Excellence

A. Introduction to the Center for Writing Excellence The Center of Writing Excellence (CWE) is a writing service that is provided by the University of

Phoenix (UOP) to assist students with the development of their writing skills and creation of assignment deliverables. This service provides Tutorials and offers a reviewing service as a benefit to each student when he or she becomes a student of UOP. The CWE’s list of services is broken in to multiple sections that will be summarized and explained in this portion of the user manual. These services are as follows:

WritePoint

Tutor Review

Plagiarism Check

Tutorials and Guides

Click on the following URL to access the student e-campus, then log in. https://ecampus.phoenix.edu/classroom/ic/cwe/home.aspx

B. WritePointWritePoint is an automated document review service only offered by UOP to provide quick and

effective reviews of a student’s submitted documents. This service allows students to submit multiple drafts of a document and will review each document for basic grammar issues. This automated service is available 7 days a week and is available 24 hours a day. Any down times will be identified as part of the important messages on the CWE page.

Tutor ReviewTutor review service provides a more in-depth feedback than the WritePoint service. An actual human

will review the first few pages of the submitted documents and provide feedback. It should be noted that due to the resources provided as part of this service there are a few limitations.

1. Reviewers will identify an issue only the first two times in occurs in a document.2. The tutor will only review the first four pages of any submitted document.3. Student document can only be submitted once.4. Turnaround times for reviews can take up to 5 days.

When using the tutor service it is recommended that the student completes his or her document prior to submission and submit the document for review at minimum of one week prior to assignment submission date.

C. Plagiarism Check The Plagiarism Check service quickly reviews a document for content that may have been developed

by another author and returns the document to the student for proper citation or rewrite. This service can be invaluable to ensure students have not made copyright violations in their documents. Although this service normally has a quick turnaround, it is recommended that new students check the webpage for information on high volume days or times.

Figure 3: Submit paper form

The following steps detail how papers are submitted to the CWE using the above form:1. Item A provides an area for the student to title the paper being submitted. This can be used to

identify the title of the paper and what version is submitted to help students keep track of their files. This field has room for over 100 characters allowing for some flexibility in how the document is titled.

2. Click the button to open a file selection window. This window will allow students to browse their computer and locate the file they are planning on submitting. (Figure 3 Item B)

3. Select the course (course student is currently enrolled in) by clicking on the course selection drop down list. (Figure 3 Item C)

4. The student has the ability to submit a paper written in both English and Spanish by selecting the submitting language to ensure the paper is routed the appropriate reviewing resources. (Figure 3 item D)

5. A paper can be submitted to single or multiple services by selecting each service the student wants to use. See sections 2.2 – 2.4 for descriptions of the services.

6. Finally, clicking the button will send the selected paper to the service selected in step 5.
