Gallup’s extensive research has found that employee
engagement and productivity are strongly influenced when
employees agree that their opinions count.
In a study of one company with several manufacturing
plants, the best ranked plants were those in which 1 in 3
employees strongly agreed that their opinions count, while in
the lowest ranked plants, that number was 1 in 7. Gallup
found accidents were twice as likely to occur in the plants who
ranked lowest on the opinions count question.

“Often times recognition goes unnoticed and is only accepted or
appreciated when it comes from the top. Many employees do not view a
simple ‘thank you’ from their peers or
subordinates as recognition; when in fact
it’s sincere recognition. Take your simple
‘thank you’ to another level. Encourage
your employees to take note of the great
work that is being done around them by
their peers and/or their manager. Create
index cards that say “I See You” and place
them throughout your work area for
employees to fill out conveniently when
they want to recognize someone for the work they have done. You can be
as creative as you like and play on the words “I See You”. The look on the
person's face when they receive a card is priceless.”
