Project Engineer (Contractor): Manage site upgrade and expansion projects in the feed house (grain elevators), fermentation plant, and distillation plant from project inception through construction and startup. Used working knowledge of project & construction management, food standards, engineering drawings, P&ID’s, process equipment, piping & valves, automation & controls, to control project costs and schedule. Conduct engineering and construction feasibility studies, develop project scope, budgetary costs, and

financial justifications in order to obtain capital. Managed project implementation including procurement, detail engineering, budgets, costs, forecasts, schedules, and construction contractors.

Managed construction of a $1.4 million dollar system to introduce cracked corn & “fines” to the main process conveyors serving the corn mills (grinders). This allowed the company to reduce raw material costs by nearly 40% which led to a project payback of less than one year.

Designed and installed automated carbon dioxide monitoring and ventilation systems at the processing facilities. The systems allowed safe worker access to the elevator boot pits and tunnels.

Designed and installed an automated Clean-In-Place (CIP) process for corn oil separation machinery reducing maintenance downtime by 50%.

Managed the FGD supplier on a $700 million FGD project to ensure technical and commercial compliance with FGD specifications, cost, and schedule.

Led team efforts to write the FGD technical specification including performance guarantees, performance testing, risk assessments, and detailed engineering calculations.

Managed the development of preferred vendor lists, equipment specifications, proposal evaluations, technical exceptions & clarifications. Managed the project schedule and conducted periodic meetings with vendors to negotiate price, and to resolve scheduling and technical issues.

Alside, Inc. West Salem, Ohio (05/98 to 10/05) Manufacturer of PVC siding, windows and fence:

Manager of Plant Engineering & Safety: Responsible for the management of plant engineering, maintenance, MRO procurement, plant safety, process improvement, and capital projects. Responsible for all engineering activities including machine design, equipment sizing, energy usage, and material flows.

Managed a technical staff to ensure that plant equipment and systems were properly designed, maintained and available for operations. Managed the development and implementation of process, production, and facility improvements, and managed environmental and safety programs.

Developed a financial model that predicted future capacities, sales, and costs for three extrusion facilities. Based on the analysis, which predicted a yearly savings of over $15 million for closing their Texas plant, the company decided to close the plant and distribute the production equipment among the remaining two plants.

Lead Engineer on large-scale projects and proposals with primary responsibility for coordinating Process Engineering, Design Engineering (Graphics), Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Estimating activities.
