Introduction

Workplace communication the first brief, less theory-intensive text that focusses on the fundamentals of workplace communication specifically intended for applied writing courses in community colleges and similar settings. Written in a conversational style, uncluttered page layout and it is designed to be accessible.  Interactive Model Documents, nearly 90 models will helpyou create effective documents. 1.1 The author and the book

George J. Searles is a Professor of Arts & Humanities at Mohawk Valley Community College, specializing in journalism, business/technical writing, contemporary poetry, and Latin. He has also taught at Green Haven State Prison, Binghamton University (where he earned his Ph.D.), New York Institute of Technology, St. Elizabeth’s College of Nursing, Utica College of Syracuse University, and SUNY College of Technology, and on the graduate level for New School University. Along with numerous articles, reviews, and poems in a broad range of popular and academic periodicals, he has published three volumes of literary criticism from university presses and five editions of Workplace Communications: The Basics, a Pearson textbook used on over 200 campuses here and abroad.

1.2 Author purpose

His purpose writing the text book of workplace communication the basics were exclusive on job-related communication. It is to be more intensive for the student’s. This course will be satisfies curricular English requirement for students anticipating the careers in such fields as welding, air conditioning, and electrical maintenance.

The summaries of each chapters

There are 12 chapters in this book. All were written about the improvement of every each conversation. Here in this book review, I’m going to summaries every each chapter.

Here are the basic keys successful communications:

i. Chapter 1, you will be expert in identify your communication purpose and your audience, thereby achieving the appropriate tone in every workplace.

ii. Chapter 2, you will be able to use basic format and organization pattern to write effective memo’s and e-mail messages.

iii. Chapter 3, to write business effective letter must be able to use full block style and proven organization pattern.

iv. Chapter 4, in this chapter you will be able to enhance your written and oral reports with using visual elements such as tables, graphs, charts and pictures.

v. Chapter 5 shows the basic principles of page design and format to write effective reports of various kinds.

vi. Chapter 6, students will be able to write clear, concise and complete summaries that convey the content.

vii. Chapter 7 will be able to use proven strategies to create effective fliers, brochures’ and newsletters.

viii. Chapter 8, you will be able to write clear instructions and procedure descriptions that will enable the reader to perform a given procedure without unnecessary difficult or risk.

ix. Chapter 9, here this chapter will make you to write an effective job application letter and resume to interview and follow up successfully.

x. Chapter 10, this will be more important for us when we do the oral presentation and delivery.

xi. Chapter 11 will be able to use standard procedures to write successful solicited and unsolicited proposals.

xii. Chapter 12 this chapter will help us to create well-designed long reports whether working independently or with others.

In these texts that are provided two appendixes, in Appendix A there are about the ten strategies to improve your style. Whereby, appendix B written about the review of mechanics likes spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Conclusion

This book will be more important in our live, because nowadays English as the international language and we must know the proper way to communicate.

This new edition of 5th edition Workplace Communications the Basics has been edited with new design colour, more realistic samples, new chapter edited in, coverage of APA and MLA.

For anyone that's interested in business reports, memos, resumes, cover letters, or research-based project proposals, this is an excellent text and there are also more realistic looking samples, appendix on grammar and more exercises.
