Sustainable

‘How can we make it more sustainable?’ is the leading question in every phase of design. From sourcing our materials to planning efficient production processes: we reduce our carbon footprint every step of the way. The result is a building that will continue to reduce the CO2 footprint of its users lifelong. Using the latest technology available, every Sustainer Home is at least a zero energy building. But we don’t stop there. We specialize in designing completely self-sufficient, off-the-grid homes that don’t require you to compromise on comfort.

Flexible

Sustainer Homes uses a modular construction that can easily be customized to create original and personal designs. Life changes constantly and now your home can too: a Sustainer Home can be expanded with extra modules or the lightweight construction can be transported en reassembled at new location altogether.

Comfortable

Sustainability no longer requires you to compromise on comfort or design. A Sustainer Home meets every need of modern life: keeping you cosy in winter, cool in the summer and with plenty of energy for you to enjoy a maximum level of comfort.

Sustainer Homes

Our conceptSustainer Homes combines sustainability with flexibility, elegant design, and comfortable living.

The starting point of every design is a basic module. The modules can be linked together in every direction and stacked two stories high making it easy and affordable to design a diverse range of buildings for every purpose and budget.

No steel or concrete is used in the construction. We avoid using these energy and water intensive materials and work exclusively with timber sourced from sustainably managed forests. This way a Sustainer Home does not produce CO2, but stores it!

Using top-quality materials, a Sustainer Home is long-lasting but low in maintenance. The walls are insulated using recyclable materials and all windows are triple glass in wooden window frames. The result is a lightweight, passive building that requires a minimum amount of solar energy for heating and cooling.

Every Sustainer Home is custom-made to suit your particular purpose, budget, and location.

Our designs are sustainable across their entire lifecycle. All materials are selected with the greatest care taking into consideration their origin, CO2 emission, and recyclability. The modular construction is made from cross-laminated timber: a strong, natural product replacing traditional materials such as steel and concrete. The interior and exterior of your Sustainer Home can be finished with any of a large variety of materials. Different types of timber are available, each with their own unique character matching the desired function and look of the building.

A Sustainer Home is always a passive building. Temperature is controlled with an air source heat pump (ASHP): an efficient and cost saving technology providing a pleasant indoor climate. Additional energy and water saving technology - for example heat recovery systems in the shower - reduce your bills even further or enable you to live off-the-grid completely!

The combined CO2 emission of the production and lifetime use of a Sustainer Home is a fraction of traditional buildings. We are committed to setting a new standard for construction combining elegant design, comfortable living and sustainable construction in one affordable product.

Sustainable design

Modular constructionOur modular construction is strong, lightweight, and flexible. The individual parts are made by CNC-milling cross laminated timber: the extreme accuracy of this process contributes to a high quality finished product. Moreover, the computer-controlled process is efficiently organized reducing production time and cutting waste.

Ventilation ducts, wiring and lighting are invisibly integrated above the ceiling panels. Fresh air circulation in the building is silent and equally distributed, providing a comfortable indoor climate.

Modular construction is fast. Most of the production process is standardized and computerized. We can go from the drawing board to a completed building in just a few weeks.

Sustainer Homes’ modules are extremely versatile. They are the building blocks for homes, holiday homes, offices or even a beach pavilion! The prefabricated modules are easily transported to the building site and assembled in just a few days. The construction is lightweight. Depending on local soil conditions a simple screw pile foundation is all that’s needed.

Starting a family or need extra office space? A Sustainer Home can easily be expanded with additional modules. Moreover, the entire building can be disassembled and rebuilt at a new location. The foundation is easily removed and off-grid solutions are available that will travel with your Sustainer Home to its new destination.

Modular construction does not put limits on design! Apart from a large variety of exterior and interiors finishes, there is a range of customizable features available for roofs, overhangs, terraces, and so on. Always discuss your ideas with us. We can translate your plans into a building with custom designed elements.

Maximum flexibility

Sustainer Homes is specialized in building off-grid homes. We can install all necessary systems and technology to allow you to live and work completely self-sufficient. This means your Sustainer Home:

top-quality drinking water• Treats wastewater through a constructed

wetland or other off-grid solution

We don’t offer standard solutions. Every Sustainer Home is custom-made to fit your specific situation and dimensioning the off-grid systems is an integral part of the designing process. We take into consideration comprehensive climate models, your location, and anticipated water and energy use to design a building that allows you to live sustainably without changing your lifestyle.

Comfortably off-the-grid

Design & Construction Our designing process is easy and quick. With the basics ready, we can draw the first designs of your Sustainer Home in just a few days. Our team involves you in the entire design process. Together we assess your wishes and lifestyle and develop a personal and original design.

Off-grid solutions are adapted to your needs. Not two Sustainer Homes are the same! Taking into consideration all factors - purpose, required capacity, local regulations, costs, and more - we design electricty and water systems that can be relied upon.

For a turnkey delivery, our design team can include interior design and complete a Sustainer Home with a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom using the same CNC-milling technology.
