WHAT?

Monetary donations should not be restricted to enable wise usage of funds.

Donators shouldn't donate money to any disaster which makes the news headlines but instead donate to smaller emergencies.

Page 3: English FA2

WHY?Japan is a wealthy country which is responding well to the disaster.

It’s still unclear how or where organisations intend on spending the money that they are raising.

Money is not the bottleneck issue in disasters like the Japan earthquake.

The organisation "Globalgiving" was created to support projects where the lack of money ismuch more of a problem than it is in Japan.

WHAT YOU SHOULDN'T DO

Don't donate money to Japan as they do not need our money.

Page 6: English FA2

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Help to fund those smaller and less visible emergencies.

Give money to organizations like the Red Cross instead.

Make unrestricted contributions to MSF teams.

CASE STUDY: HAITI EARTHQUAKE

very little that could be done with the money

all the money donated might never be enough

trying to rebuild failed states like Haiti by throwing them money would likely backfire

Many started donating money to help Haiti after the earthquake, which was not necessarily a good thing because...

CASE STUDY continued...

charities which raised money for Haiti were not all soundnone of the money would go to wholly admirable organizations like Doctors Without Bordermost of the funds were earmarked, which restricted it's ability to help generously

Page 9: English FA2

In short...Make unrestricted, generous contributions to admirable organizations such as, MSF teams and Red Cross

Remember Haiti as a good example, that simply donating money is not necessarily effective

Think wisely before you donate, for do you even know where your money is going to?
