Script HI,everyone, I am Chong Chin Pin. I am here to describe about the special design of the Singapore esplanade that inspired from biomimicry.. First , what is biomimicry. Biomimicry Biomimicry is something like imitate and emulating. The only different between biomimicry and normal imitation is biomimicry is imitate natural things that exist around our natural environment such as trees, flowers, insects and animals. Biomimicry helps human in daily life. Human refer and learn from the nature. Then, they get ideas from it to solve problems. Singapore’ Esplanade is an new unique building built for the purpose of art and culture in this modern country. It has a special structure that everyone will forever keep it in mind. It is really awesome and came from a genius idea. It looks like our king of fruit, DURIAN!!!! Actually, its inspiration really came from the multi-layered of the durian and its husk which fully covered by the formidable thorn. However, do u know that the original design, presented to the public in 1994, consisted of unadorned glass cases over the theatres, and initially elicited criticisms from the public, including calling it "two copulating aardvarks". Critics also accused that the design is insensitive to Singapore's location and climate as it would have created a greenhouse in the tropical climate of Singapore, but according to DPA director Vikas Gore some form of shading was always intended, and a cladding of aluminium sunshades was added to the final design. The unique architectural design has been said to have an appearance similar to either a durian (a tropical fruit) or the eyes of a fly. Hence, the building is colloquially known to locals as "the durians". This unique design influence its external and internal appearance and its functions. Just like the durian plant will protect the seeds inside by its semi rigid pressurised skin. Thus, the exterior part of the Esplanade also can elaborate the shading system which can adjust the temperature inside the building to avoid overheating.
