WHAT IS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN INTELLIGENCE AND CREATIVITY?

RATIONALE

Past Research• The most notable in our research was the

story of Lewis Terman,an American psychologist. He is best known for the “Genetic Studies of Genius”.

Terman concluded: “At any rate, we have seen that intellect and achievement are far from perfectly correlated”.

Our Research Goal

• We wish to find out the relationship between intelligence and creativity.

• We would like to know how to trigger or increase creativity and how does it affects our lives.

The Hypothesis

• We think that creativity is less common in higher levels of intelligence – so we expect to see that people that succeed more in the IQ test will score less in the creativity test than people with lower IQ.

The Experiment• We decided to try to test our hypothesis using

an experiment – we would test students in both an IQ and a creativity test, and we’ll try to find a correlation.

The Tests• Creativity example: How many uses can you

find for a book?• IQ example:

The Experiment• We also wanted to see how one can increase

creativity, so we added a little twist to the creativity test.

• The subjects are divided to groups, and perform the test once, then they will get an assignment, and then do the test again.

The Experiment• We think that people that will do a non-

demanding-but-occupying task will succeed in the second test more than people who did nothing or people who did a demanding task.

We see that the average IQ is 111, and the average total creativity score is 105.5. This means that our participants have relative high levels of creativity AND IQ.

Those results suggest that in order to improve your creativity, you need to do a non-demanding but occupying task, such as going for a walk or taking a bath.

CONCLUSIONS• We calculated and found that ρ* is 0.318.

Although technically a positive correlation, the relationship between our variables is weak (the nearer the value is to zero, the weaker the relationship).

Summery• We have seen that intelligence doesn’t

determine success in life.• Also, we saw that there is a connection

between intelligence and creativity, but it isn’t perfect and is weak.

• We learned how to perform a scientific experiment and research, how to make and grade tests and now we understand our world a little bit better.
