Video a go-go

The following few slides contain some videos about typography then transition into something called “Kinetic” typography (or type that moves).

Let’s see how badly alt-tabbing kills today’s PPT. :)

How to get nifty fonts

You might notice that most computers– even the ones here in the super-slick design-minded labs– don’t have a huge selection of fonts.

This can put you at a disadvantage as a creator. But not to worry. Fonts are out there.

Let me show you a few cool places to visit.

And, of course, there’s always GoogleOne of the things you will hear me say from now until the end of semester is “Don’t forget about Google.” Obviously you can’t just type in www.google.com and expect everything to fall into place, but if you are savvy about how you search, both resources you need and tutorial information you crave is right out there in cyberspace to be plucked up and used.

Don’t hesitate to do that. Collective knowledge is useful.

Let’s play a little

With our remaining time in class, open Photoshop and play around a bit. I know we came to the class with different levels of experience, so as you have questions about Photoshop, ask me or ask your classmates.

Let’s see if we can’t get off to a start here.

Remember

Your focal topic proposals are due tomorrow.

I will be responding to those on Saturday (and Sunday, if Saturday happens to get busy on me). On Tuesday, we will begin our research blogs based on our topics (and I’ll go over the research blog expectations).

Also for Tuesday:

Read for class: Chapters 1-5 on Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity (aka the CRAP principles) in Robin Williams’ The Non-Designer’s Design Book http://proquest.safaribooksonline.com/9780321563088?tocview=true

Remember your Rhetorical Analysis 2 is due on Tuesday as well.
