WHY WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW?
Most of us are anxious about what will happen
tomorrow. Hence, we save money to secure our future, prepare to leave some inheritance for our children, and even get life insurance so that our heirs will have money to spend
for our funeral expenses. When we encounter problems, we break our heads and
spend sleepless nights trying to find solutions. The problem just seems so enormous that we start to panic and sometimes find ourselves on the verge of breaking down.
Oftentimes we worry about “appearance & sustenance” – what to wear, what to eat, what type of house or what brand
of car or watch to buy, what to do with the wrinkles, what to do with the aches and pains, what to do to live longer. Our priorities lie in what impresses others, what achievements
catch attention and what brings honor to our name. The funny thing is that our savings, our looks and our
achievements are never enough. Hence, the desire for material things becomes endless. The coveted peace of mind and true happiness are seldom achieved.
So we ask ourselves, what do we do then? Take the “bahala na” attitude we Filipinos are known for? Wait for
manna to fall from heaven? Oh yes. Didn’t God say that if the birds survive because of divine providence how can He abandon men whom He loves dearly? But there is a thin line
between faith and dependence for God provides but man must strive.
Since I joined Rotary, I observed that although the resources have been few, we never run out of service projects because people and organizations pour in the needed support.
Kabisig ng Kalahi has provided funds for our supplementary feeding programs (both school-based & community-based), SM
Foundation helped with the medical-dental mission, the Governor’s Special Grants enabled us to give free vaccines to
Senior Citizens in the Barangay. Members of our Club quietly donate when a need arises. We don’t have to worry about tomorrow for our Club is truly blessed.
Community Song
BAYAN KO (Original Tagalog lyrics by Jose Corazon de Jesus
Melody by Constancio de Guzman)
CHORUS
Ibon mang may layang lumipad Kulungin mo at umiiyak
Bayan pa kayang sakdal-dilag
Ang 'di magnasang makaalpas
Pilipinas kong minumutya
Pugad ng luha at dalita Aking adhika
Makita kang sakdal laya
AD LIB
[Repeat CHORUS]

THE LAST QUARTER OF THE ROTARY YEAR
March is the last month before the last quarter of the
year. It is the time for the incumbent Board to consolidate the accomplishments of the Club from July of
last year, and to accelerate the efforts on those projects which still remain to be finished. The best way to finish
them is not to work under stress. It is better when the finishing work is done with calm and focused effort, as
work done under stress is most often less than
satisfactory. It is very seldom when a club can do 100% of what it set out to do, owing to several factors, but
what is important is the genuine effort to achieve them. Thus, a figure as close to 100% as possible is excellent.
March is also the month when the incoming Board
should begin to plan in earnest what they want the Club, under their leadership, to accomplish next Rotary year.
That is the only way that the Club can "hit the ground running" in July. Our unsolicited advice to the incoming
Board is that your year will only be as good as your plans. If your programs are well thought out, based on solid
data, difficult but doable, fully understood by all the members as well as their roles in it, and the members
see the leadership's commitment to it, you are bound to
have an excellent year. Always keep in touch with the members whatever it is you wish to do, for they are the
Club just as equally as the officers are. It is when the officers and the members work together as one when a
great Club is formed.
Prayer
How blessed we are to have You as Our God and Father. We want to
celebrate each day of life for indeed it is Your great gift to us. We thank You
for the gift of salvation and life eternal through the cross and resurrection.
Because of life that You gift us with, we are able to enjoy the gift of family and
close friends; the air and the beauty of our surroundings; the places we get to
visit. Because of life, we are also able to make contributions to enhance
situations and life circumstances; bless the lives of other people both close to
us and those who enter our circles of influence. Yes, Lord, we are thankful for
the gift of life.
Help us to cherish it and nurture it. Help us to truly value it and teach others
that life is worth living and preserving. May we never be involved in actions
and affiliations that in any way diminish or end life. We, your sons and
daughters in Rotary, want to be life givers as You gave us life when we were
created, nurtured it through our caring parents, and now commiting ourselves
to being like You. All these we bring to You, O Lord of our lives. Amen.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are."
~Theodore Roosevelt
THOUGHT OF THE DAY
"The most valuable tasks you can do each day are often the hardest and most complex. But the
payoff and rewards for completing these tasks
efficiently can be tremendous."
~Brian Tracy
Thoughts on the Feb. 22 Medical Dental Mission By PP Elsa Unson
I just wanted to say that the time we got to spend today helping in the
Medical-Dental Mission was a great opportunity for us to help bless
others. It was also a humbling experience.
Having to take a morning or a whole day off to help in a medical dental
mission doing things that are not normally part of one's routine, is for
some a daunting task. For others it is something that one just steps up to
do help out in.
Today's Medical Dental Mission was a club project that was going to
benefit not only Horseshoe but several nearby barangays as well so the
numbers for today were definitely expected to be big. What a blessing
so many of our club members and some spouses, joined in
enthusiastically.
When we need to see a doctor or a dentist, we do not want to spend
countless hours waiting for our turn. We make appointments or if it
really an emergency, we take a chance to get to see a doctor we know or
who was recommended to us but we do not line up like the men, women
and children who patiently (sometimes impatiently) waited for their turn,
moving up one seat at a time so that anyone of the 5-6 pediatricians or
anyone of the 5 doctors for adult medicine or anyone of the 2 dentists
could spend some time with them to listen to their health concerns and
prescribe medicines needed to make them well. We never wait in lines
as long as what the people we served today, went through.
These men and women who live generally on or below the poverty line,
rely on the medical-dental missions the local government and civic
organizations like Rotary organize. We provided them with this much
awaited opportunity and this project our club has undertaken, is really
one of the things that attest to Rotary's being an organization that cares
and builds bridges that bring communities closer together. I was glad to
have been among the club members who actively helped to in my small
way, make the medical dental mission go smoothly. I am glad many of
our members, new ones especially, have chosen to spend time to be
there. Mabuhay!
URBAN VEGETABLE GARDEN LECTURE AND DEMO
Last February 24, an Urban Vegetable Gardening Lecture/Demo was
presented to the 3rd
year students and TLE (Technology, Livelihood Education)
teachers of P. Bernardo High School by Professor David Balilla, agriculturist of
Barangay Holy Spirit. Professor Balilla started by describing the present set-up in
Barangay Holy Spirit which has a successful and highly acclaimed organic
vegetable garden in the depressed areas there. This will help address the hunger
problem in the urban areas. He then proceeded to teach the students and teachers
how to do different kinds of composting as well as non-traditional (hydroponics)
ways of planting vegetables using scrap plastic softdrink bottles and plastic sacks.
President Baby (who brought vegetable seedlings), Rtn Irma and some
representatives from Barangay Horseshoe attended. A follow-up evaluation will be
conducted on March 14 to check on the vegetable planting project of the school.
Quote of the Month: Understand and be understood Rotary International News -- 17 February 2011 Each month, we highlight a piece of Rotary history and share an inspirational
quote from past Rotary leaders. February’s quote:
"The spirit of Rotary is not exclusive; it expands. It is
not local, it is universal. And so the wish to understand
and to be understood, the wish to see the virtues rather
than the faults in others, the longing to find out what we
have in common rather than what divides us — these
can be widely shared."

"Ignorance is a menace to peace." "Perhaps dreaming is not so bad if one dreams
good dreams and makes them come true." "Personality has power to uplift, power to
depress, power to curse, and power to bless." Paul Harris circa 1915. Rotary Images
