WHAT YOU NEED • Nextel Internet-ready phone • Subscription to a wireless data service package or select
rate plan • A Yahoo! ID and password
Note: To get a Yahoo! ID and password, go to http://www.yahoo.com.
DOWNLOAD ENHANCED IM SERVICE ON YOUR PHONE 1. From the idle screen, press . 2. Select Downloads > Applications-download >
IM [model #]. 3. Follow instructions to purchase the service. 4. Press to return to idle screen. 5. From the idle screen, press . 6. Select Java Apps > Download Apps > New Purchases >
IM [model #]. 7. Wait for the application to download. When finished, it will
appear in the Java Apps main menu.
USING YAHOO! MESSENGER ON YOUR PHONE
Signing In 1. From the idle screen, press . 2. Select Java Apps > IM [model #]. 3. Select YAHOO MESSENGER. 4. Enter your Yahoo! ID and password and press under
Sign In. The Yahoo! Messenger main page is displayed.
Signing Out When you are done using Yahoo! Messenger, you should sign out so that others know you are offline. 1. From the Yahoo! Messenger main page, press . 2. Select Sign Out, then press when prompted to confirm.
OVERVIEW When you sign in to Yahoo! Messenger, the main page displays: • Conversations • Online contacts • Offline contacts
Additional options are available by pressing : • Sign Out • Add Contact
• My Status • Send message to… • Saved History • Refresh list
When you sign in to Yahoo! Messenger, there are no active conversations listed. As conversations are initiated, they are displayed in the Conversations list.
MANAGING YOUR CONTACTS
Adding a Contact You can add a new contact by entering their Yahoo! ID.
1. From the Yahoo! Messenger main page, press . 2. Select Add Contact, then enter the contact’s Yahoo! ID and
press under OK. You will see “Updating your Contact List…,” followed by “<contact> added.”
Renaming a Contact You can rename online and offline contacts to use nicknames instead of their full Yahoo! IDs. 1. From the Yahoo! Messenger main page, highlight the
contact you want to rename and press .
2. Select Rename, then type the nickname and press under OK. The contact list will be updated.
Deleting a Contact You can delete online and offline Contacts. 1. From the Yahoo! Messenger main page, highlight the
contact you want to delete and press . 2. Select Delete Contact. 3. Press under OK to delete the contact.
SENDING AN INSTANT MESSAGE
You can open an instant messaging session with any online contact. To send an instant message:
1. Scroll to the desired online contact and press under Send IM. (The conversation page will be displayed.)
2. Type your message and press under Send.
• To use Quick Text, press , select Insert Quick Text, select a message, then press under Send.
• To insert an emoticon, press under Emoticon, select the emoticon, then press under Send.
Note: The maximum number of characters for an instant message is 400 characters.
Conversations lists your active Yahoo! Messenger conversations by contact name.

RECEIVING AN INSTANT MESSAGE
You will hear an alert tone from your phone when a new message has been received. (An exclamation point [!] in the “Conversation” icon indicates new messages.) To view a new message, highlight the sender in the Conversations list and press .
Online lists the names from your Contact List that are currently signed in and available for Yahoo! Messaging.
Offline lists the names from your Contact List that are not currently signed in. Note: You can receive incoming messages while typing.
REPLYING TO AN INSTANT MESSAGE When you receive an instant message, just type your response from the conversation page, then press under Send.
ENDING A CONVERSATION 1. To end a conversation from the main page, highlight the
contact name in the Conversation list and press . (From an active conversation page, just press .)
2. Select End conversation. 3. Press under OK to confirm.
SAVED CONVERSATIONS
Saving a Conversation You can save active conversations from the conversation page or from the Yahoo! Messenger main page.
1. From an active conversation, press and select Save. From the main page, highlight the conversation and press
under Save.
2. Enter a name for the conversation and press under OK.
Viewing a Saved Conversation You can save active conversations from the conversation page or from the Yahoo! Messenger main page.
1. From the main page, press and select Saved History.
2. Highlight a conversation and press under Open.
Note: Saved conversations can be accessed from additional instant messaging programs on your phone, including AOL Instant Messenger and MSN Messenger.
