“Enhancement of guard to on-cell and in-cell touch screens for Smart phones” With the advent of new series of smart phones which are mostly with total glass front, there comes a risk of phone turning total dysfunctional, if any how it hits the ground hard. Reason for total dysfunction Whenever, your smart phone e!periences a free fall over any very hard surface such as gravel roads, cemented "oors etc, it e!periences sudden #erk or a reactionary force and if the impact is large in amount , a crack may $e induced in the screen. %nd it is a well know fact that, cracking forces tend to travel from the point of &rst impact to all over the screen surface, propagating the crack, until and unless the force is diminished to a very nominal magnitude. 'ue to such a nature of cracking forces, the entire touch screen $ecomes dysfunctional even when the impact is on #ust one corner or on one of the edges. Enhancement of guard to on-cell and in-cell touch screens for Smart phones

With the advent of new series of smart phones which are mostly with total glass front, there comes a risk of phone turning total dysfunctional, if any how it hits the ground hard.Reason for total dysfunction:Whenever, your smart phone experiences a free fall over any very hard surface such as gravel roads, cemented floors etc, it experiences sudden jerk or a reactionary force and if the impact is large in amount , a crack may be induced in the screen.

And it is a well know fact that, cracking forces tend to travel from the point of first impact to all over the screen surface, propagating the crack, until and unless the force is diminished to a very nominal magnitude. Due to such a nature of cracking forces, the entire touch screen becomes dysfunctional even when the impact is on just one corner or on one of the edges. There are certain evident proofs of it.Let us see some of the pictures confirming, the above mentioned facts.

a) A phone on being hit on one of its corner It clearly depicts the propagation of crack from Corner of phone to main screen.

A side edge hit smart phone, shows the immense destruction of crack propagationSo by above pictures we can clearly settle out that , a mere hit can make your phone go into a state of total dysfunctionalism , so in order to combat that we need to make some design changes.And this patent is regarding one such design which tends to minimise propagation of cracks.

So the basic things we can do is:a) Minimise impact of hit, to as low as possible.b) Discontinuity between edges and the main screen from all the 4 sides.These two concepts form the basis of my patent design idea.Some diagrams to clarify different kinds of impact when a phone hits a surface in different modes of falling:a)
