Real Life Examples

Film Title What was the enigma? Is this inspirational to you?

Sinister The use and effect of cameraception. What will he find in/ out about the house?

This could be quite inspirational as what gives the movie the enigma is the fact the audience find everything out at the same time as the character, we have no ‘inside knowledge’ so therefore are in the same position as the character, completely unaware of what to expect.

Paranormal Activity The use and effect of time lapsing. What are these periods of time building up to? What are these periods of time hiding?

This could also be inspirational as we can keep what has happened or what is going to happen quite ambiguous.

American Horror Story The use of POV shots (throughout all series) Who is watching the characters? What do they want with the characters?

This could be inspirational as we plan on using a ‘Mysterious Creature’ in our OTS who watches Amber.

Enigma

• The enigmas in our Opening Sequence are going to be:

ENIGMAS Why are the two girls where they are? How have they ended up lost?

Why doesn’t Amber’s friend want to go into the graveyard?

Who are POV shots/ shadows of?

Why are her eyes red and possessed at the end?

EXPLANATION The audience might be intrigued as to why they have ended up at a graveyard.

Maybe Amber’s friend knows something about what’s lurking in the graveyard? Or maybe she is just scared?

The audience will want to know who or what is following and watching Amber.

The audience will be curious to find out what happened to Amber, what’s made her turn this way?

Enigma & Genre

• Our enigmas are suitable to our genre because they follow the common conventions of a supernatural horror.

• The audience will be left answering questions about the opening sequence which they would hope to find out later in the rest of the film.
