If you have a garden of at least half an acre you should

consider purchasing a Mountfield lawn rider or lawn

tractor.

Our range starts with compact lawn riders which really are

an economic alternative to larger walk-behind mowers yet

still small enough to drive through a standard garden gate.

They’re great fun to use too!

For larger gardens of an acre or more a lawn tractor is a

must and if you have a lawn tractor it can do much more

than cut grass. Choose an accessory from the Mountfield

range to make light of the heavy work around your garden.

Most Mountfield riders and lawn tractors utilise a “3-in-1”

cutting system. This features a mid-mounted cutter deck

with either single or twin blades. Grass clippings can be cut

and discharged into a rear mounted collector ready for

disposal or discharged to the rear of the machine using a

deflector kit. If you want to recycle your clippings instead

simply fit a mulching kit, or take a look at a dedicated

mulching machine.

With a choice of cutting widths up to 122cm combined

with plenty of horsepower, the Mountfield range offers

machines for gardens of up to five acres.

All models are light and easy to handle and for

additional ease of use we also have manual or

hydrostatic transmission options; a hydrostatic

Offering the power and versatility associated with all our ride-

on mowers they have an overall width of just 90cm and are

ideal if you have a garden of around 1.5 acres with gates or

other tight spaces to negotiate.

Featuring a twin-bladed cutter deck and wide central discharge

chute, these tractors offer far superior cutting and collecting

clippings are efficiently discharged into the large 240 litre

capacity rear mounted collector, that can be easily emptied

These 92cm cutting width tractors offer excellent

performance at great value prices.

Powered by Mountfield and Honda single cylinder engines they

also offer options of a manual gearbox with 5 forward gears

and reverse or a hydrostatic transmission providing variable

groundspeed control similar to an automatic car.

All these models have a twin-bladed 92cm working width cutter

deck with electronic blade engagement. Clippings are

discharged cleanly and efficiently into a 260 litre capacity

These Mountfield lawn tractors provide an effective

solution if you don’t want to collect your grass clippings.

Instead of discharging clippings into a collector these mulching

tractors retain them beneath the cutter deck to be cut and re-

cut into small particles which are blown down into the lawn

where they decompose and return valuable nutrients to the soil.

Mow your grass on a regular basis and you’ll save time, money

and effort without sacrificing the standard of finish.

At times the growth may be too vigorous to mulch effectively.

In these conditions simply select the side discharge function;

grass will be neatly cut and spread allowing it to wilt naturally.

Both models are powered by Mountfield single cylinder OHV

engines and have 98cm working width twin blade cutter decks.

You have a choice of either a 5-speed manual transmission or

These two Mountfield lawn tractors both feature our highly

efficient 102cm Cut and Collect system.

Twin contra rotating blades cut and discharge clippings into the

large rear mounted collector in one smooth operation. Garden

debris such as autumn leaves and pine needles can also be

collected in the same way. An alarm sounds when the collector

is full and resets automatically once it has been emptied. And

you can empty the collector without leaving the driving seat.

cuts large areas of grass down to size. A twin cylinder

Briggs & Stratton engine powering an infinitely

variable hydrostatic transmission delivers smooth and

controllable drive to the rear wheels.

Controls are ergonomically designed and placed within

easy reach of the operator. A fully adjustable seat and

illuminated diagnostic display add to the driving

Mulching grass is a great feature as it saves so much time. It

can be more than 30% quicker as there is no stopping work to

drive to the tip to empty clippings so this also results in a

significant fuel saving.

Mulching the grass allows the clippings to be recycled,

improving the soil as they decompose forming a natural

fertiliser high in potash and nitrogen. You will notice a marked

improvement in your grass as this fertiliser takes effect over the

course of the cutting season.

You may well ask “Will I see the mulched grass?” The answer is

“No!”Mulched clippings are blown down into the turf and are

not noticeable provided the grass is cut regularly and not on

the lowest setting.

From fine lawns to unruly paddocks you can be confident that

Choosing the right lawnmower can seem daunting - but it

needn’t be difficult if you follow this guide.

The first thing to consider is the size of your garden. Is it small,

medium, large or extra large? If we use a tennis court as a

reference point, small gardens are around half a tennis court,

medium up to three quarters and large up to one and a half.

Extra large gardens are half an acre or more and a ride-on

mower would be a more appropriate choice.

Depending on the size of your garden you may have a choice

of power source. Mains electric mowers are quiet, lightweight

and easy to use; they are ideal for smaller gardens. Petrol

engine mowers are a better choice for larger areas as they are

more powerful and not restricted by a cable. Modern petrol

engines are easy to start; on some you just have to turn a key.

Mowers with 4 wheels are highly manoeuvrable and give an

excellent finish on all types of lawn. If you want a classic

striped effect finish you’ll need a machine with a rear roller.

Hand propelled machines have to be pushed to make them

move forward, the motor or engine’s sole function is to drive

the cutter blade. Self propelled models have a transmission so

they require less effort to use; just engage the drive and the

mower will move forward.

The chassis, or cutter deck, may be made of polypropylene,

steel with a powder coated paint finish, or aluminium. It

houses the blade and determines the working width, from

34cm to 53cm.

Finally, do you want to collect your grass clippings? As well as

conventional machines with grass collectors we have models

with a mulch option which saves time and effort by recycling

clippings.

This throttle control allows you to vary the engine speed to suit your working conditions.

The greater the capacity of the grasscollector the fewer times you’ll haveto empty it.

If you want a striped effect finishselect a machine with a rear roller.

Levers are used to adjust the cuttingheight. This mower just has one lever;other models may have 2, 3 or 4 levers.

Our petrol mowers are powered by eitherMountfield or Honda engines. All of themare 4-stroke and run on unleaded petrol witha separate tank for the oil Power outputs arelisted in the specification tables in the backof this brochure.

The Honda engines fitted to ourmowers have overhead cams(OHC). This type of engine is slightlymore complex than an OHV type buthas fewer moving parts so is quieter.The cam is driven by a belt.

Transform your Mountfieldlawnmower into a mulching modelwith our ‘Mulching Plug’. This easyto fit device eliminates the need forgrass collection as all the grasscuttings are finely cut and recycledinto your lawn. This not onlyfertilises your lawn, it also makescutting your grass around 30%quicker!

The largest of our electric mowers the Princess 42 is a highperformance rear roller machine. Supplied with a mulching kitto recycle grass clippings it has a 42cm working width, 1800watt motor and offers excellent value for money.
