COLLABORATION IN THE WORK OF TRANSITION
As Christ Episcopal Church makes ready to call our retiring rector’s successor, we parishioners have some essential
preliminary work to do, specifically the identification of the core values that sustain and guide our faith community.
We hope everyone will participate in two 45-minute sessions, in December, to share your peak experiences at Christ
Church and to gather our hopes for the road ahead. In order to accommodate worshippers at CEC’s three weekend
services, the sessions are scheduled as follows:
Session I: Sat, December 2, following 5 p.m. service; Sun, December 3, 9 a.m.
Session II: Sat, December 16, following 5 p.m. service; Sun, December 17, 9 a.m.
All of the sessions will be in the parish hall and will be led by Mary Tom Watts, a Christ Church parishioner with
40+ years’ experience in the field of theological reflection, group process, and educational design.

THE HOLIDAY SEASON HAS BEGUN
HAPPENINGS IN DAYTON
Visit ticketcenterstage.com to order tickets for events listed below.
MUSIC
A SWINGING HOLIDAY CELEBRATION DAYTON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA PATRICK REYNOLDS conductor
12/8-9/ 2017 Mead Theatre- Schuster Center
The Christmas season has many moods . . . from sacred and
traditional to young-at-heart and popular. For tonight, however, the
focus is on Swing: those catchy rhythms that the hippest of the hip
use to make everything, including the holidays, just a little more
cool. Conductor Patrick Reynolds and the Dayton Philharmonic
Orchestra have chosen the crème de la crème of swingin’ holiday
classics. Some of the tunes that will sparkle through the evening
include “Baby It’s Cold Outside,” “The Christmas Song,” “Sleigh
Ride,” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” It’s a night
full of Mel Tormé, Johnny Mercer, Vince Guaraldi, and Duke
Ellington—as the DPO performs his arrangement of “The
Nutcracker Suite.” ***** HANDEL Messiah A DAYTON PHILHARMONIC SPECIAL EVENT NEAL GITTLEMAN artistic director, conductor
DAYTON PHILHARMONIC CHAMBER CHOIR HANK DAHLMAN director
12/17/2017 Westminster Presbyterian Church, Downtown Dayton
Although Handel's Messiah speaks directly to the gospel message of
the passion and resurrection celebrated at Easter, this angelic piece
has become a holiday tradition at Christmastime as well. With no
distinguishable characters, the drama relies entirely on the
communication of the story of Christ in words, as well as in the
powerful, emotionally stirring, and at times heartbreakingly
beautiful music of a composer for whom the oratorio proved a
personal salvation. Join the Dayton Philharmonic in December for
this glorious choral masterpiece at the gorgeous Westminster
Presbyterian Church in downtown Dayton.
THEATRE
A CHRISTMAS STORY VICTORIA THEATRE BROADWAY SERIES
12/12-17/ 2017
How many times do you think you’ve enjoyed the film? Now it’s
your turn to see it come to life on stage in a fresh new way – with all
your favorite comic moments! Humorist Jean Shepherd’s memoir of
growing up in the Midwest in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie
Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun under the
tree for Christmas (“You’ll shoot your eye out!”). All the elements
from the beloved movie are here, including that temperamental
furnace, the Scut Farkus affair, the “double dog dare ya” with the
flag pole at school, the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin, Ralphie’s
dad’s “major award” (a.k.a. the leg lamp), and much more – all live
on stage at the intimate Victoria Theatre. *****

including the full professional Dayton Ballet company, dancers from
Dayton Ballet II and the Dayton Ballet School, and over 100

The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Neal
Gittleman, again takes up residence in the orchestra pit, giving
Tchaikovsky's music the full, rich, gorgeous interpretation that it
requires. The elegance, grace and sheer athleticism of Dayton
Ballet's core ensemble and star dancers bring the drama to
