You are fortunate to have a huge variety of enrichments to choose from.

To help you to decide what new and exciting opportunities you would like to

participate in, here are the different categories of enrichment we have

available for you this term and the character traits you can demonstrate:

Arts and Publishing – reflect on the history of art, how to improve your range

of artistic techniques and adapt your writing to your readers

Debating - show courage as you speak in front of different audiences,

having worked carefully to build strong arguments on fascinating

issues

Drama – adapt the skills you learn in lessons, working with different people

to perform in a different environment

Global Citizens – take responsibility for yourself and the world you live in

as you learn more about the world and how you can make it a better place

Languages – show empathy with people all over the world as you learn to

communicate in another language and appreciate different cultures

Life skills – show altruism as you develop skills to support your own

and other people’s health and happiness

Music – be honest with yourself and others as you work together to create

and improve different pieces of music

Science – be curious as you work to understand the world you live in

and develop new ways of solving problems

Sport and games – show tenacity in order to improve your strategy

Wednesday

ARTS AND PUBLISHING

Scenic Art

Scenic Art will offer pupils an opportunity to access new materials and construct artwork on a larger scale. Working as part of a production team pupils will design, create and make the backdrop to Year 7’s Drama and Musical recital.

Knitting

Knitting is a craft form that has been around for at least 1000 years, with a knitted sock being found in Egypt dating back to about 1000 AD. In this enrichment you will learn the basics of knitting.

The School Publication

You will be responsible for creating interesting and well-written pieces that will be published each half-term and distributed throughout the school. You will show adaptability working with new technology, curiosity while researching new stories and courage during interviews.

DEBATING

Global Affairs

You will engage with current issues and form opinions about the world around you. Debating with your peers you will demonstrate and develop your empathy and curiosity, and get the chance to critically analyse a range of sources, including articles, images and videos.

DRAMA

Performance Poetry

We will engage energetically and passionately with composition and verse; being reflective as we consider the feelings and messages behind poetry. We will watch different poets; perform; write our own poetry and end the term with a competition!

Drama

In Drama enrichment we will enjoy being curious and courageous as we develop or creative thinking, build our confidence and strengthen our social skills. We will tenaciously work together with new people, creating and performing our fantastic, original pieces.

GLOBAL CITIZENS

Global Passport

In Global Passport enrichment you will learn about customs, traditions and culture from around the world. Individual country case studies each week will promote curiosity and adaptability to the world around you.

Social Justice

In Social Justice Enrichment, you will use your curiosity to question whether people in our society are treated fairly. You will also learn about ways that you can tackle inequality, and help to make ours a fairer society.

History Club

In History club we will explore the world through a range of weird and wonderful objects. Using the eye of an historian, we will dive into the lives of brilliant and bizarre individuals from the past, to better understand where humanity has come from and where it might be going.

AJK Charity Project

In the AJK Charity Project, you will research, plan and carry out your own charity event. This is an excellent opportunity to make a practical difference for something you care about.

Wednesday

LANGUAGES

Latin

In Latin we will travel back in time to the world of Ancient Rome, by discovering and decoding the language that forms the basis of over 60% of English words. Our curiosity will help us unpick the links between Latin and English vocabulary.

LIFE SKILLS

Primary Reading

In primary reading, you will develop your responsibility and empathy by working with primary school children to help them improve their reading. This enrichment is a fantastic opportunity if you are considering working with children in the future.

Gardening

We will be creating a school allotment to grow vegetables all year round and starting the first AJK Rose Garden. Learn more about how plants and flowers grow, where our food comes from and get active in the garden.

First Aid

This enrichment will build your knowledge of common first aid skills and techniques. You will learn how to be adaptable by recognising different symptoms and develop the courage to respond to medical emergencies.

Cooking

In cooking you will learn an incredibly important life skill - how to cook delicious, healthy meals for yourself and your family. We will show curiosity in trying new ingredients and recipes, and responsibility as we work together to keep the kitchen clean and safe.

MUSIC

Keyboard

Y8+9 only

Keyboard enrichment is an exciting opportunity for you to explore the keyboard beyond what you already do in your regular music lessons. You will develop your courage and tenacity through playing some exciting solo pieces, and your adaptability by playing with a partner and in larger groups.

Ukulele

In Ukulele you will have the opportunity to learn a new instrument or further your existing skills. You will show curiosity by learning something new and altruism by working well with others and preparing for an end product. This enrichment is fantastic for anyone wishing to continue with

music or performing at GCSE level and beyond.

Wednesday

SCIENCE

Coding

In coding enrichment, we will learn to code websites using HTML and CSS. We will also demonstrate responsibility as we work towards completing our website and adaptability through debugging errors our code.

Science Club

In science club we’ll develop our curiosity by investigating the

fascinating cutting edge science we see in the news, such as

cloning and artificial intelligence. We’ll be improving our critical

thinking, forming evidence based opinions to foster intellectual

honesty and exercising our debating skills in the process!

SPORT AND GAMES

Board Games

In Board Games, we will be learning about how we can develop leadership and character through a combination of teamwork and reflectiveness. We will explore strategy, adaptability and improve our communication skills, whilst playing a variety of board games every week.

Swimming

Year 9 only

You must already be able to confidently swim 25m without

stopping, touching the side or putting your

feet down.

In swimming enrichment, you will get the opportunity to develop the techniques to the 4 different strokes, as well as improve your water fitness. You will need to show tenacity by completing new and different drills to improve your strokes.

Chess

Known as "the game of kings", playing chess helps you to improve your brain function, memory and critical thinking skills. You will need to show tenacity and adaptability in order to master the strategic skills that make this such an enjoyable game for anyone and everyone.

Badminton

In Badminton, we will be learning essential techniques, shots, tactics and strategy needed for success in the fastest racket sport on Earth. You will be given a huge opportunity to develop your responsibility and tenacity - by being leaders of your development, and defeating the challenges to come.

Fitness Suite

Within Fitness Suite enrichment we are going to be using the fantastic equipment available in order to develop a range of components of fitness. These will include cardiovascular fitness, power and muscular strength. We will be working extremely hard and you will get sweaty!

Zumbaerobics

Learn the benefits of dance as fitness. By combining aerobic cardiovascular exercise with great music, zumba offers a total body work out and is a great stress buster.

ARTS AND PUBLISHING

Fashion Illustration

In Fashion Illustration, you will learn about a wider range of careers and create responses to these, for example Clothing Design, Shoe Design and Make up Design. You will develop your understanding of the formal elements of Art, and learn new techniques of working with watercolour pencils and collage.

Painting

In painting, we learn and reflect upon classical painting styles from great artists. You will focus on improving your technique in having the courage to handle new medium and adapt them to your own creations.

Art History

What is the ‘truth’ behind art? Pupils will have the opportunity to judge past and present works of art, such as modern advertising and wartime posters. This enrichment is essential for any enthusiastic artist and historian.

Sewing and Design

In sewing and design enrichment, you will learn how to sew a variety of decorative stitches, how to cut fabric using a pattern, and how to sew pieces of fabric together. You will then use these skills to make your own felt purse or pencil case, decorated with your own design!

Creative Writing

In creative writing you will discover more about a range of texts such as poetry and short stories. You will adapt your knowledge and skills in order to produce your own pieces of engaging creative writing.

DEBATING

Public Speaking and Debating

In public speaking and debating, you will develop your own voice and gain the courage to express your opinions. This will lead to competitive debating and an opportunity to be an ambassador for AJK at the prestigious Youth Speaks competition.

Ethics in Science

In Science Ethics we will be discussing and debating key moral

issues such as the development of artificial intelligence! You

will develop as an independent thinker by being responsible

and empathetic, and you will develop your courage as you

argue and defend your positions.

GLOBAL CITIZENS

Green Schools

This activity can’t be repeated

In Green Schools enrichment we will study environmental issues over a local to global scale. This will develop your curiosity and responsibility for the world around you and be proactive in our approach to being 'green'.

LANGUAGES

Japanese

We'll be learning how to talk about ourselves and our cultures in an exciting and challenging foreign language. We'll also be showing our amazing curiosity and adaptability to learn the Japanese writing systems to be able to create our own writing projects.

Italian

Ciao! In Italian, you will learn how to introduce yourself with your key details and interests. You will develop your adaptability as you learn a new language, curiosty as we learn about Italian culture, and your courage by speaking to each other in Italian!

Spanish

Spanish is spoken by more than 470 million people worldwide! In Spanish enrichment we will begin to learn the language and be able to greet people, give information about ourselves, describe the weather and give our opinions on different topics. We will also learn about Spanish culture and one of the most exciting and controversial festivals the country has!

LIFE SKILLS

Practical Leadership

For practical leadership you need courage and adaptability, skills you need in almost every career. You will learn how to be an effective leader and develop teamwork through a different practical challenge every week.

MUSIC

African Drumming

In African drumming, you will be exploring the rhythms of Africa through playing your own drum in a large ensemble. This is an excellent opportunity to show curiosity and adaptability when playing an unfamiliar style of music, and responsibility for keeping your own part going!

Musical Theatre

In musical theatre, you will have the opportunity to sing, dance and act to create a musical show together. You will show responsibility with your role in the musical and courage by trying something new and working with a group.

SCIENCE

STEM

In STEM enrichment you will be using your scientific curiosity by designing and making your own science experiment. We will be developing our scientific skills and showing adaptability and tenacity to understand the science behind everyday objects.

Introduction to IT

Introduction to ICT is a learning course designed to give you an insight into the sort of knowledge that you will need if you intend to pursue a career that involves using technology, or to take Computer Science at GCSE.

Advanced Coding

In advanced coding enrichment, we will learn to use Scratch create an immersive video game. We will also demonstrate tenacity as we persevere with difficult challenges and responsibility as we organise our time.

SPORTS AND GAMES

Board Games

In Board Games, we will be learning about how we can develop leadership and character through a combination of teamwork and reflectiveness. We will explore strategy, adaptability and improve our communication skills, whilst playing a variety of board games every week.

Girls’ Football

In girls’ football you will have the opportunity to develop your footballing skills and passion for the sport through drills and matches. You will show tenacity and courage as you work towards a tournament at the end of the term.

Yoga

Yoga is a safe and enjoyable way to improve your strength, flexibility and balance, as well as a great way to show responsibility for your emotional and physical wellbeing. You will learn individual poses and sequences and demonstrate tenacity by challenging yourself to exceed your own expectations!

Dance

In dance, we will explore two exciting and contrasting styles of dance, contemporary and commercial. You will need to be curious and courageous, as we learn core dance technique, build fitness and strength, and work collaboratively towards a final group performance.

Netball

In netball you will get the chance to learn the rules and skills needed to play in a match, as well as developing your fitness. You will also get the chance to be chosen for the school netball team and play matches against other schools.
