ENRICHMENT MINI-COURSES PROGRAM

Dear Parents: We are delighted that your child has chosen Carleton University for the Enrichment Mini-Courses Program (EMCP) 2016.

On Sunday, May 1, 2016 you are welcome to join us for the EMCP Orientation Day. This is an opportunity for you to meet the instructor/s and get oriented with our campus where your child will be attending EMCP class for the week. A typical orientation session will last for about an hour. In addition to meeting their instructor/s and classmates, your class will talk about the activities of the week, filed trips, etc. We anticipate close to 3000 people attending the orientation and so we have scheduled three sessions. For courses # 200-225 the session is at 1pm; for courses # 226-258 at 2pm. We request that you come and attend the scheduled time of your orientation.

If you are interested in a formal guided tour (45 minutes) of the campus before or after your class orientation, please register online at http://admissions.carleton.ca/enrichment-mini-courses-program-tours/. Only two sessions are offered, at 2 pm and at 3 pm.

We have enclosed the brochure outlining the program, along with the leaflet (Quick Guide to Carleton) which you can review in advance of the orientation. You and your students will report directly to your designated classroom on Sunday, May 1st (please refer to the map on the back of the brochure). Please read these brochures carefully and make sure to note the time of your orientation session.

You may be interested to know that four $1,000 scholarships are presented annually to former EMCP students. Each student who attends a mini-course at Carleton is eligible to apply and COULD QUALIFY for a $1,000 scholarship upon admission to a first year undergraduate program at Carleton University. e are delighted that you have chosen Carleton University for an enrichment program this year. Throughout its thirty-sixth year history, the Enrichment Mini-Courses Program (EMCP) has given thousands of students a chance to

experience learning in a post-secondary setting. As well, this unique event has given us the opportunity to showcase Carleton’s academic programs and facilities.

Start the week at Carleton University by meeting your instructor/s and classmates!

On Sunday, May 1, 2016, we invite you to join us on campus for the EMCP

orientation day. You (students and parents) will meet in your designated classroom, for about 45 minutes to an hour, to talk about your class activities for the week. Please refer to the map at the back of this brochure to find out the location of your classroom for the orientation session. Our EMCP staff will be available on campus to direct/escort you to your respective class. Please locate your course number below and make note of your designated orientation session, at 1 pm or 2 pm.

For courses 200 - 225, your orientation session is at 1pm. For courses 226 - 258, your orientation session is at 2pm. Please note: in case you are lost, go to the Tory Foyer and we’ll be there to help you, or look for an EMCP staff (wearing EMCP black T-shirt).

Discover Carleton’s learning environment! We are delighted to introduce you to our excellent academic programs offered in a friendly, informal atmosphere of the EMCP. We want you to feel at home and part of Carleton community.

During your week at Carleton, you will have a chance to explore and enjoy

the University and its beautiful surroundings. To make your EMCP week memorable, each student will receive a commemorative EMCP 2016 Carleton T-shirt. During your week in the classroom, your instructor will draw prizes that include Carleton collectibles and souvenirs. On Wednesday, May 4, during the lunch hour, we’ll distribute free popcorn and cotton candies. And finally, you’ll receive a certificate for completing successfully at the EMCP week.

Scholarships are also presented annually to former EMCP students. Each

As a mini-course student, you have full access to the library. However, all materials must be used within the library. Study space is available throughout the five floors. UniCentre Store First Level, University Centre Hours: 9:00 am-7:00 pm You can purchase sundries, magazines, greeting cards and snacks from the UniCentre store. The campus Post Office is also available at this location.

EMCP Scholarship Each student who attends a mini-course becomes eligible to apply and COULD QUALIFY for a $1000.00 scholarship upon admission to

Carleton University (CU) in their first year of studies. The scholarship is presented annually to four or five former mini-course students with the highest academic standing upon admission to the University. The scholarship presented annually was established in 1990 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Enrichment Mini-Courses program at CU. In the upcoming 2016-17 academic year, the scholarship will be awarded to four candidates who have the highest scholastic standing of all the candidates who are eligible for the award.

Time of classes during mini-course week is 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Teachers and/or bus supervisors may want to check-in in 342 Tory Building, where you will be directed to areas where coffee, tea and refreshments may be purchased. The Hospitality Room is also in 342 Tory Building. There will be EMCP Captains to meet the buses and help students find their way to their classrooms.
