How to Enroll in Classes STEP 1: APPLY FOR ADMISSION
NEW STUDENTS To apply to attend MECC, you must complete the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) online application at www.mecc.edu/apply. After completing and submitting your application, you are officially admitted to MECC and will receive a student ID number and username on your confirmation page. Print this page or write down this information for your records. For noncredit class enrollment, visit www.mecc.edu/workforce.
RETURNING STUDENTS Returning students should meet with their advisor prior to registration. Your advisor will assist you with selecting classes. Check with the Student Services Office 276.523.2400 if you do not know the name of your advisor. Returning students may also enroll online. Log on to MECC Online at www.mecc.edu to register for classes. If you do not have access to the web from home, you may enroll at Enrollment Services on the first floor of Godwin Hall.
STEP 2: APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID
The first step is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov. MECC’s school code to include on the form is 009629. Remember to apply for MECC Foundation Scholarships at www.mecc.edu/scholarships.
STEP 3: TAKE PLACEMENT TESTS, SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS, AND MEET WITH AN ADVISOR
TAKE PLACEMENT TESTS Students who plan to apply for financial aid or pursue a degree or certificate at MECC requiring Math or English courses must take placement tests. These tests are administered in the Testing Center at MECC located in Holton Hall. There is no fee to take the placement tests. You can prepare for the tests by accessing helpful resources at www.mecc.edu/testing.
Possible exemptions from taking some or all of the placement tests include:
• SAT scores (within two years) of at least 520 in Math and/or 500 in Both Critical Reading and Writing • Certain ACT scores • Successful completion of certain college-‐level Math and/or English courses • AP test scores of 3 or higher in English and/or Math
MEET WITH AN ADVISOR Once you have completed your placement tests, make an appointment with an advisor. Contact Student Services at 276.523.2400 ext. 472, or stop by the Student Services Office in Holton Hall, to set up your appointment.
SEND HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS TO MECC Students applying for admission should submit their high school or college transcript information to MECC’s Enrollment Services Office, located in Godwin Hall, prior to registering for courses.
STEP 4: REGISTER & PAY FOR CLASSES
REGISTER Register for classes online through MECC Online, located at www.mecc.edu. This system will ask you to enter your username and password which you received when you completed the online application to the College.
PAY FOR CLASSES Pay for classes either online through MECC Online, by using the TMS Payment Plan Options, or in person at the Business Office located in Godwin Hall, 1st floor. To learn more about payment options, visit www.mecc.edu/paying-‐for-‐college. Important: You will be dropped from classes if you do not pay tuition and fees by the payment deadline noted in the Academic Calendar.
PAYMENT DEADLINES Students who enroll during the Priority Enrollment period (November 9, 2015 – January 14, 2016) must pay all tuition and fees by January 14, 2016. Payments not received by this date will result in students being dropped from enrolled coursework. Students enrolling on or after January 14, 2016 must pay tuition on the day of enrollment. TUITION PAYMENT PLAN To help you meet your educational expenses, MECC offers a convenient budget plan. Students can pay tuition and fees through an automatic monthly deduction from a checking, savings, or credit card account. All down payments are processed immediately. Remember that if you register for the payment plan and add or drop a class, your tuition payment plan must be adjusted accordingly. Adjustments to the plan can be made in the following ways; 1.) You can access your payment plan account and request an adjustment; 2.) Contact TMS to adjust your account; or contact the Business Office to have your payment plan updated. The Business Office cannot adjust your payment plan without your permission. Once a payment plan adjustment has been requested, final approval must come from the Business Office.

CAREER SERVICES Career Services offers computerized career assessments and career planning to help students determine career goals and thus a college major. Students can receive assistance with employment preparation including workshops and seminars on resume development, resume critiques, interview and business etiquette, mock interviews, tips on job search strategies, job market projections, and labor market trends. READING THE CLASS SCHEDULE ORIENTATION Most video and web classes require some form of orientation. Orientation is used to give students important information about the course. Following are examples of the different types of orientation: Online Orientation, email instructor at (email address) between (dates) -‐ students must send instructor an email introducing themselves at some time during the dates given.
