Entacapone and zotepine launched in the UK
Two drugs have recently been launched in the UK, reports Scrip.
The first is entacapone ['Comtess'; Orion], which is indicated as an adjunct to standard treatment with levodopalbenserazide or levodopalcarbidopa in patients with Parkinson's disease who have endof-dose motor fluctuations and who are not stabilised on these combinations alone.
The catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor will be priced at £19.05 for 30 x 200mg tablets and £63.50 for 100 tablets.
Entacapone was approved via the European Community's centralised procedure earlier this year. *
The other drug to be launched is zotepine ['Zoleptil'; Orion]. The dual dopamine/serotonin antagonist is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia.
The recommended starting dose of zotepine is 25mg 3 times daily to a maximum of 100mg 3 times daily if required, says Scrip.
Zotepine was approved in the UK, which is the rapporteur for the European Union's mutual recognition procedure, earlier this year. ** * See /nphanna 1158: 22, 10 Oct 1998; 8fXJ713001
