Software Defined Networking

Colt’s SDN vision is internally defined as “Network Programmability” and has two main components:

1) Bring computing paradigm to networking: make the network elastic,

scalable, on-demand and virtualised

2) Allow Application layer to communicate, through standard APIs, with

the network

The target is to integrate in the long term IMS functions,

UC and other applications within the SDN architecture

• Fully virtualised deployments on our standard compute platforms

• APIs for QoS, CAC, DPI, provisioning, billing etc. to allow

applications and network to talk

Future Voice Propositions

The OTT Question:

B2B ≠ B2C

• Regulatory (emergency calls, LI)

• Functionality (dialplans, CLI, IN, etc.)

How does the future Voice/VoIP environment look like?

• Large web-servers instead of an IMS core?

• How will WebRTC be integrated in IMS?

What about current developments?

• Do we need nat’l VoIP I/Cs with PTTs or will it be Internet? (*)

• Should we further (heavily!) invest in Number Portability?

• Etc…

Summary

• Functionality of SIP trunks is there, next step is to reduce complexity

• IMS and UC platforms covered in the long-term by Colt’s vision of

Network Programmability (SDN)

• B2B SIP trunking less impacted by OTT so far due to more stringent

requirements, but this may change over time

• WebRTC has the potential to impact our future service offering and

infrastructure architecture

• The next 2-3 years will show if WebRTC becomes a game changer

or if it was a simple distraction
