Thoughts Behind the Folds

The idea to fold theFamiliar Spaceship camefrom my neighbor, JamieRossman, who one daycame over very excited.Hey Jeremy, theres anad in my Star Trekmagazine from someonewho will pay $100 fordiagrams of how to fold theEnterprise! This wasbefore I knew how todiagram, but I decided totake on the projectnevertheless. It turned outto be much more difficultthan I had anticipated andtook me one month of headbanging before I finallycame up with a version Iliked. Then I set out on themassive project of foldingeach intermediary step,which added up to 36partially folded Enterprises,all for a measly $100!Then, to add insult toinjury, the guy never paidme! But the upshot is thatthis model has become oneof my most populardesigns, so Im not bitter.Challenge: Design origamimodels of other familiarspace ships. The Star Trekfamily alone should keepyou busy, but dipping intoscience fiction, theres nolimit to the number offoldable fantasy ships.
