POWER GENERATION USING FOOTSTEPS
Name: Sourabh Jain
Conventional & Non-conventional Energy Sources
➢In India energy is produced by burning coal, petroleum, natural gas etc. which are conventional sources.
➢Whereas we in Gujarat also use sources like biomass, wind, solar etc. are called non conventional energy sources which is not harmful for the environment.
IT BEGINS HERE #GUJ
➢ Innovation never stops in Gujarat.
➢And as most of you know this is the Land of The Vyapaaris!!
➢These are the very reasons why we have come up with another “INNOVATIVE” solution to help our fellow Guju Bhais get cheaper and better electricity
ALTERNATIVE SOURCE OF ENERGY
➢Footsteps are an untapped natural resource.
➢The Challenge – convert footstep energy to electrical energy.
➢The Solution – using piezoelectric material.
➢The utilization of waste energy of foot power with human motion is very important for highly populated countries.
➢India and China, where the roads, railway stations, temples, etc. are all over crowded and millions of people move around the clock.
NEED OF THE SYSTEM
BASIC PRINCIPLE ➢When a pedestrian steps on the top of the plate,
the plate will dip down slightly.
➢The downward movement of the plate results in rotation of the shaft of an electrical alternator fitted in the device.
WORKING
➢The pushing power is converted into electricity
➢The piezoelectric material is fixed on a plane.
➢The spring is used to return the inclined step in same position by releasing the load.
➢The shaft of generator is connected to the piezoelectric material. AC is generated which will be converted to DC.
POSSIBLE FOOTSTEP ARRANGEMENTS
REAL-WORLD INSTALLATIONS
➢ Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys – UK
➢ Empire State Building - US
➢ Panduit Corporation World Headquarters – US
➢ Riverdale Country School – US
APPLICATIONSThe applications to piezo electric power generation are many.
Here are a few of them
FUTURE APPLICATIONS
SIDEWALKS = POWERPLANTS➢The technology converts
kinetic energy into electrical energy.
➢ The energy stored is later used for various purposes.
➢ This is suitable for highly populated urban areas.
ADVANTAGES
➢Power generation is simply walking on step.➢ Power also generated by running.➢No need fuel input.➢This is a Non-conventional system.➢Battery is used to store the generated power.
DISADVANTAGES
➢Only applicable for the particular place.➢Initial cost of this arrangement is high.➢Tiles used are durable but not everlasting.
CONCLUSION➢ Smart system➢Produces 60 or 70 watts on every 10 to 15
steps continuous footsteps.➢Natural and reliable source for limited amount
of electricity.➢ Durable ➢ Have a life of approx. 8 years.
