Letter to the Seminar Students

Dear Students,

We are delighted that you have been selected to take part in the seminar

offered this year for a second time, entitled “Entrepreneurship and Innovation

in a Growing Economy: Brazil” with Prof. Raphael Bar-El.

The seminar is part of the Entrepreneurship and Hi-Tech track courses within

the MBA program of the Department of Business Administration, Guilford

Glazer Faculty of Business and Management, Ben-Gurion University of the

Negev.

The seminar is implemented thanks to the generosity of Mr. Arnold Bengis,

who donated a special fund for this mission through the Bengis Center for

Entrepreneurship & Hi-Tech Management, Guilford Glazer Faculty of

Business and Management.

In light of the dynamic changes in global markets, the objective of the

seminar is to expose students to the potential activities taking place in

growing markets in general and in one of the four BRIC countries in

particular. Participants will analyze existing models and measures, and

experience advanced business activities in these markets.

This seminar is conducted partly in Israel and partly in Ceara, Brazil, in

cooperation with the University of Fortaleza and with the Association of

Industrialists in Ceara.

The Bengis Center for Entrepreneurship & Hi-Tech Management supports

and subsidizes this seminar. The Center is known for encouraging

entrepreneurship and innovation among students and faculty. Therefore, it is

important to be acquainted with the Center so that you will know how it can

assist you during your studies and afterwards.

The Bengis Center was established in 2001, responding to the ever-growing

need of understanding the main issues faced today in the fields of

entrepreneurship, innovation and hi-tech management. The Center trains the

next generation of business leaders in these fields, thus strengthening

Israel's position as a key player in the international high-tech market.

While located in the Guilford Glazer Faculty for Business and Management,

the Bengis Center provides services to students and faculty from all

departments and degrees of the university. Its primary goal is to assist

students interested in developing business ideas or in acquiring general

tools in the field of entrepreneurship. Additionally, the Bengis Center is

involved in promoting education and research in this field, while also working

to strengthen the relationship between the public business sector and

academia.

For these reasons, and out of a desire to improve knowledge and skills in

dealing with changing global economic conditions, the Bengis Center has

chosen to support this seminar.

Seminar participants are invited to take part in the wide number of activities

that the Bengis Center offers, including practical training in entrepreneurship,

individual business consultations, competitions for writing business plans

and more. In this way you can improve your skills and acquire tools that will

assist you as students, but also later as entrepreneurs or employees and

managers.

MR. ARNOLD BENGIS

It is a well-known fact that Innovation and

Entrepreneurship are important ingredients in the

advancement of the Capitalistic world. At the Bengis

Centre for Entrepreneurship, we have gone a step

further, realizing that this philosophy crosses

international borders and that there is a tremendous

advantage in co-operating with educational institutions

with a philosophy similar to ours.

We wish the participants a productive seminar, which

will undoubtedly benefit the people of both Israel and

Brazil.

Department of Business Administration (MBA)

The Department of Business Administration is one of the five departments of the Guilford Glazer Faculty of Business and Management. The MBA program is structured to provide a common base of knowledge for all students, regardless of previous educational background. Six pre-requisite courses are offered in the first year of studies: Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Organizational Behavior, Quantitative Methods and Computer Applications. Two tracks are available: the standard track for those students whose immediate aim is to obtain an MBA, and the research (thesis) track for those students who wish to advance their research skills and possibly continue studies to the Ph.D. level. In each track, students may choose a field of specialization or pursue a general management orientation. The specializations are: finance, marketing, organizational behavior, strategy and international management, Multidisciplinary Program and Entrepreneurship and Hi-Tech Management (see below).

The Entrepreneurship and Hi-Tech Management Track (Specialization)

The Entrepreneurship and Hi-Tech Management Track headed by Prof. Dafna Schwartz provides students with the knowledge and tools required of entrepreneurs and managers, especially in the areas of hi-tech and bio-tech, as well as of owners of small businesses and agencies in the business and public sectors associated with them. Studies involve an integration of theoretical and empirical knowledge that is based on collaboration with hi-tech companies (both industry and services), with business agencies that are a part of this industry (venture capital, etc.) and with universities around the world that specialize in this area. This specialization has an empirical focus and includes preparing a business plan for a real entrepreneurial project.
